A sailboat to redraw borders

The all-new Hallberg-Rassy 50 follows the great success of 57, 44, 40C and 340. The new 50 is designed for effortless sailing and great comfort with plenty of space. This sailboat pushes further the boundaries of what is possible to accomplish in a 50-footer while at the same time staying true to classic Hallberg-Rassy principles.

We are used to comparing boats by hull length measured in feet. But much more relevant is the waterline length. The new 50 has a waterline that is up to 50 cm (1′ 8″) longer than on the Hallberg-Rassy 55.

A longer waterline offers better sailing performance, with longer average daily travel distances and, at the same time, more interior volume, comfort and storage space below deck.

It is wider than the Hallberg-Rassy 55 by 33 cm at the widest point and even 1.08 m at the transom. This further improves internal volume and stowage.

“Soft” navigation

The modern hull shape of the Hallberg-Rassy 50 is more efficient and offers superior sailing performance. At the same time, the front immersed part of the hull is rounded, almost like an egg, and this means smooth sailing behavior at any heeling angle. The displacement of the hull is designed to carry all modern comfort equipment and many personal effects, as well as a generous tank capacity. The steering system has twin rudder blades, which are superior both in terms of control during navigation and for pleasant motorized actuation without vibration and also from a safety point of view.

Large and well-protected cockpit

Typical of Hallberg-Rassy, the cockpit is very well sheltered with high walls all round and a windshield, a soft top or hard top, with tempered glass, opening center section, and handles on the sides. This is the ideal cockpit solution for both hot and cold areas. Provides good all-around visibility. With the dual wheelhouse, there is plenty of room for displays and buttons, both an easy transition forward from the helm station.

In addition, the Hallberg-Rassy 50’s rudder wheel positions give better forward visibility, both when maneuvering in a harbor and for seeing the headsail markers. A large fixed table in polished varnished teak is optional.

Modern and manageable sail plan

The sail plan is modern and easy to handle. The sail plan is modern. Garrots are not necessary, even with a high wind flake. The furler is a Furlex TD electric furler embedded in the deck controlled by push button. The high and low shrouds are attached to the hull with different metal plates. This allows easy passage to the deck, a good set up for adjusting the headsail and creating a large stable mast support. A powerful hydraulic backstay is provided as standard. The jib has a low overlap, making it easy to change walls.

Deck storage space

Deck stowage is generous. There is not only a huge deck locker between the forward cabin and the chain locker, there are also two upper-opening deck lockers in the stern, a locker in the cockpit, and good storage for fenders and ropes also above the chain locker.


The interior floor is one level throughout the boat. This allows easy movement both at sea and at anchor or in port. The interior has plenty of natural light and indirect LED lights. There is good ventilation. The layout is generous and spacious, with plenty of room in width. Closets and cabinets are also generously sized. The sturdy woodwork has the well-known Hallberg-Rassy finish.

The list of standard sailing equipment for the Hallberg-Rassy 50 is extensive. Includes, for example, electric mast furler and electric furler, sails, teak deck, Sleipner Side-Power retractable bow thruster. Also standard equipment are a 12 kW generator, 110 HP main engine, electric stove, refrigerator and freezer, antifouling, fenders, mooring lines and more.

Engine room

On the Hallberg-Rassy 50 there is a large engine room. Easy access, easy maintenance and careful sound insulation, covered with aluminum siding. Access is through a large door on the left side, as well as a retractable ladder at the front and a removable panel at the rear of the engine room. In addition, the cockpit floor is bolted and removable.

In the engine room is the technical equipment: a powerful common rail main engine, the generator with sound shield, pumps, filters, double heaters, AquaDrive flexible coupling to absorb loads from the crankshaft and further reduce vibration and noise.

Luxury Cruiser of 2022 – European Yacht of the Year

The Hallberg Rassy 50 was the “smallest” of the nominees in the Luxury Cruiser category at the 2022 European Yacht of the Year awards, but nonetheless it made a strong case for itself. The other nominees for the award along with HR’s blue water cruiser were the Jeanneau Yachts 60, Lagoon 55, Swan 58 and X5.6 from the X-Yachts shipyard.
