Grand Soleil 40

Grand Soleil 40

The smallest in the Grand Soleil range, it is hard to call it “small.” Comfort, elegance, and space worthy of a superyacht are concentrated in 40 feet (the hull is 11.90 m long, and the beam is an impressive 4.07 m): thanks to painstaking exterior and interior design work, which took advantage of every corner of the boat. At the level of “family feeling,” there is no doubt. You look at the boat and you can’t help but say, “This is a Grand Soleil.” The new 40-footer, available in dual Performance and Race versions, once again bears the signature of Matteo Polli and Nauta Design, already responsible for the exterior and interior design of previous Grand Soleil models.

Exteriors

The Grand Soleil 40, presented at the last Cannes boat show, is the latest model in Cantiere del Pardo's range of sailboats

The deck plan of the Performance version, includes 4 winches as standard: two in the deckhouse and two next to the wheelhouses. The standard self-tacking jib has a recessed rail, while the German-style mainsail sheet point is fixed in the cockpit. Note the position of the mast, which, as on the GS 44, has a set back arrangement to allow maximizing the “T” and thus the base of the headsails. Also available in carbon in the Race version, along with a sail plan of larger proportions than the standard version. “We found the right proportions to have a wide and functional deck for both racing and cruising explains Massimo Gino of Nauta Design where all the rigging studied with Matteo Polli and Cantiere del Pardo find ergonomic, practical and functional positions and solutions for both uses.”

Grand Soleil 40 – Interior

Underneath the GS 40 provides two options: in the standard version we find three cabins and one bathroom to provide more spacious closets and a larger walk-through area in the master cabin, while the optional layout provides three cabins and two bathrooms. Spaces have also been optimized to maximize habitability between the living and food areas. The GS 40 has a broadside galley with considerable linear dimensions (2.6 meters with a white resin top), complemented by a horizontally developed 75-liter cockpit refrigerator with dual openings and an optional 42-liter refrigerator with front openings. The width of the central area is also designed for racing needs: the passage can be used for sail stowage and quick equipment changes.
