E-Vang can be made in multiple sizes and with different dynamic throws to meet all needs. Made in Italy with CNC machines from bars of certified material. The bodies are made of anodized aluminum alloy, and the pins are made of special steel.
Electric motors are combined with planetary gearboxes to achieve maximum efficiency with minimum electrical consumption.
They can be equipped with permanent magnets for standard DC versions, or brushless for customized versions (400V AC). The standard dynamometer pin has a watertight plug and multi-core cable to be wired to the electrical/electronic box. Alternatively, the customized version can be supplied with a wireless dynamometer pin.
The idea behind the electronic vang
The ecological transition is crucial in the current era. This forces production companies to design and manufacture products with minimal environmental impact. Following this vision, Bamar presented a patented eco-friendly electric Vang, which replaces hydraulic Vangs in all their functions. This innovation has several advantages:
- Eco friendly: no oil on board, but very energy efficient equipment (the current available size, with a 600W rated motor, achieves a maximum intermittent pull of over 11000 kg, suitable for sailing yachts of 50′ – 65′);
- Easy installation: no hoses and manual or hydraulic power packs, just connect to the 12/24/48 V on-board power supply;
- Ease of use: controlled by 3 switches (Up – Down – Emergency Quick Release high speed);
- Connectivity: it is possible to connect the electric vang to the on-board automation monitoring and management system (limit switch sensors, load cell, ampere absorption, possible position sensor);
- Active safety: the dynamometer pivot recognizes the external compressive loads exerted by the boom and mainsail and allows the vang to automatically adapt to the sail’s adjustment needs (avoiding incorrect maneuvering or overloading);
- Passive safety: in the event of an on-board power failure, a manual emergency clutch can be used to extend or retract the unit with a standard winch handle or electric drill.
How e-Vang works
Bamar E-Vang, is driven by a state-of-the-art electric motor.
Through a planetary gearbox, the motor transmits motion to a screw that develops the necessary tensile loads.
E-Vang comes with an electronic box. Its software manages the operation of the cylinder and the information provided by the sensors installed on the unit itself, enabling all maneuvers to be carried out safely.
The dynamometer pin transmits the compressive load to the electronic box so that the extension of the vang can be adjusted according to external stresses (e.g., the boom is lowered because the mainsail sheet is pulled). The vang automatically adjusts to its length by retracting);
The unit is equipped with 2 end-of-stroke sensors that intervene to block maneuvers (In- Out), thus preventing errors and ensuring safety on board;
In case of need, in order to unload the mainsail leech while sailing and avoid broaching, the user can activate vang release at full speed via the “Emergency Quick Release high speed” control switch (10 mm/s vs. 5.5 mm/s standard operating speed).
Emergency manual operation: the vang is equipped with an emergency manual operation system. In the event of a power outage, the unit can be extended or retracted using a standard winch handle or a cordless drill.
