Established in 1977, today Antal is a company at the forefront of creating smart accessories
Over the past year, Antal, a 100% made in Italy company specializing in the production of custom and mass-produced deck equipment for sailboats of all lengths, has focused heavily on corporate renewal and an extensive research and development process to produce its products.
New CEO Enrico Gomiero, a manager with a technical and financial background developed in his long working experience in multinational companies, has joined the Carraro family, which founded the company in 1977; and at the same time new technical and commercial professionals have been brought in to renew the company’s organizational chart. At the same time, Antal’s Race& Development Tèam was born, composed of ocean sailors Andrea Fornaro, Pietro Luciani and Cecilia Zorzi, who collaborate with the company to test products aboard boats such as Class 40s and Mini 650s, and who, more generally, provide continuous feedback to Antal’s technicians for product development and innovation. The Padua-based company also will soon have a new home, while just in 2025 it is also preparing to announce a new line of carbon winches designed for maxi yachts and ocean-going boats, as well as important new partnerships.
On the other hand, products launched more recently in the market include the Antal Spinner, an ultra-lightweight, high-loading block built with the use of bioplastics, and the Antal Speedylight, a smart, bright handle that can be a navigational aid and a useful accessory for cockpit evenings.
From collaboration with Andrea Fornaro’s Class 40 team, a lightened version of the successful XTR winch series was finally developed.
ACCESSORIES THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE
The brand’s flagship product, Antal’s Spinner is a high-loading, openable, lightweight and highly efficient block, thanks to its advanced geometries, armed on a single loop of Dyneema”™.
Designed with a ball-bearing opening system that allows extremely precise and functional cheek movement, the Antal Spinner is designed to be used on various types of rigging, switching the current line on the sheave with ease for both racing and cruising boats.
The project is the result of the synergistic and constant collaboration Antal has with its Race&-Development Team, as well as the direct relationship with its customers, making their every request a real challenge to find the ideal solution to their needs at sea.
Speedylight Antal, on the other hand, is the evolution of Antal’s famous Speedylock handle, loved for having the easiest engagement and disengagement from the winch. In Speedylight, Antal has added a light accessory built into the shape of the Speedylock, so it can also be integrated with all the handles already in use. This light accessory makes the Speedylight a handle equipped with a light at LE.D, white and red, with a steady beam or several intermittent modes, capable of different uses on board. In navigation it directs a steady red beam of light in the direction of the winch drum, suitable at night to monitor the coils of lines in force, significantly increasing safety in any maneuver. In port or roadstead, then the fixed white light can be used as a convivial light source useful to the cockpit area. It should be noted that The light module is equipped with a lithium battery that ensures a service life of at least 5-6 consecutive hours. Finally, here is XTR: it is the series of racing winches obtained from the XT models: They are equipped with the X’T Self Tailing System, differentiated friction on the drum knurling, CNC machined base and sub-base, fast opening thanks to the screw-in disc and shaft with anti-friction PVD treatment.
In addition they have aluminum shaft, peek resin roller bearings for the drum and shaft with lightened gears. From the standard XTR version Antal then developed, in collaboration with skipper Andrea Fornaro, the XT52.3RD lightened, three-speed version, a true deck all-rounder capable of handling the most extreme conditions.
