On Saturday, November 8, the Gulf of Tigullio welcomed the Tigullio Race 50 Event, a regatta open to all sailing boats, regardless of size or age. A true celebration of sailing.

Tigullio Race 50 Event

In fact, the event is designed to involve all kinds of crews and to celebrate the first 50 years of the Tigullio Winter Championship. Birthday shared with the Giornale della Vela, which turned half a century old in 2025 and was in fact the partner of the regatta ; famous names in sports participated, along with crews taking part in a regatta for the first time.

As many as 58 crews showed up on the starting line set up perfectly by Franco Noceti, the true soul, since 1975, of the Tigullio Winter Championship and a historical figure in Italian sailing (with three Admiral’s Cup participations under his belt!). And there was a real ace picker: Donald Hart’s Farr 30 (formerly Mumm 30) Padawan, winner of the Tigullio Race 50 Event in overall, in the Sport class and even in the Classic Boat category (boats over 25 years old).

Boats were divided into two categories: the Cruising category , which raced with white sails, and the Sport category , in which boats were allowed to show off as many sails as possible . A special prize was also reserved for Classic Boats, which included boats with more than 25 years on their backs.

The course and the regatta

The fifteen-mile route was the historic one in the Gulf of Tigullio: starting in front of the port of Chiavari, heading for Sestri Levante, then making a course for Portofino and returning to Chiavari.

The 58 registered boats crossed the starting line at 11 a.m., with a tramontana wind that whipped through the competition in perfect Tigullan style, engaging the crews in micrometric sail adjustments to make the most of every tiny gust of wind; wind that picked up to about 6 knots when the first boats rounded the Portofino buoy, pushing the group to the finish line. Also taking part in the regatta aboard his Hansa 303 was Luca Prister, a 30-year-old Paralympic athlete coached by Umberto Verna, who was given a special prize.

The president of the Liguria region (an avid sailor) was also there.

As soon as the regatta is over, everyone at the Chiavari Yacht Club for the awards ceremony: a real party with the presence of more than 200 sailors. Marco Bucci, President of the Liguria Region and Franco Noceti, organized the Tigullio Winter Championship and Roberto Bose, president of the YCC awarded prizes:
