The family and charter cruising boat sector is one of the most active segments of the sailing industry, and the Beneteau Group is a major player. The Jeanneau brand, part of the French giant, launched at the recent fall boat shows the new Sun Odyssey 415, ushering in Jeanneau’s ninth generation of cruisers.
The design is by the Lombard studio, one of the signatures that has most distinguished the modern development of the Sun Odyssey, and the boat encompasses most of the latest innovations Jeanneau has developed on its cruisers. We visited her for you at the fall boat shows.
Aboard the Sun Odyssey 415
A boat designed for sailing
The deck plan is streamlined and redesigned to optimize movement aboard with the walkarounds free of all obstructions and steps, so as not to impede passage to the bow and maneuvering at the winches. The double leather-covered helm wheel is set far back, immediately abutting the folding aft platform, useful for transshipment and convenient as a bathing platform. Also in the aft area, there is space for a fold-down table for convivial moments on board.
Thebelow-deck environment provides a completely revised layout compared to the previous version; going down three steps, an L-shaped galley is positioned at the bottom of the staircase and a saloon designed with comfort and functionality in mind will accommodate up to five guests on board. The chart table, oriented in the direction of navigation and designed for two people, integrates all the technical interfaces needed to manage the boat. The below-deck environment of the new 415 is very bright, thanks to the many windows in the broadside and on the deckhouse, which allow plenty of natural light to filter inside. There can be up to three cabins: two doubles in the stern with external bathroom and master in the bow with or without en-suite bathroom, or you can choose the double cabin configuration (master in the bow and double in the stern) with only one bathroom on board.
