One more day, just one day left to participate in a piece of sailing history. More than 50 boats have already done so. Registration closesat 12 noon on Friday, Nov. 7. Then, on Saturday, Nov. 8, the Event: the Tigullio Race 50th Event coastal regatta celebrating the 50th anniversary of Italy’s oldest winter championship starts in Liguria.
All boats can participate with fierce, more relaxed or family crews. Of all sizes, characteristics and ages, divided into “Cruising” for relaxed racing with jib and mainsail or “Sport” with all possible and imaginable sails. A few details and registration is done: no red tape.
The Sailing Newspaper could not fail to support such a historic event. It will follow it with ample space. Those who participate will be featured on our website and in the upcoming December issue of the magazine.
At arm’s length along a historical precourse
Each boat is given a fee that allows everyone to compete on a level playing field with chances for a good result. And there is a special prize reserved for the Classic, the boats over 25 years old.
The route is the historic one that has made Tigullio famous, from Portofino to Sestri Levante with departure and arrival in Chiavari. Fifteen miles of fascinating sailing that ends with the prize-giving party at 5:30 p.m. at the Chiavari Yacht Club with rich prizes and buffet, with participating boats finding free mooring in the Marina di Chiavari Calata Ovest during the prize-giving. Franco Noceti heading the Circoli del Tigullio Committee has done things right: he has planned two courses, depending on the wind direction, which you can see below.
On the water with all kinds of boats. Here’s who’s there
Boats of all kinds participate in the Tigullio Race 50th Event/regatta. How can you not get excited about sailing alongside a monument of yachting such as the fascinating Caligù Terzo Rabbit, the 1965 10-meter today by Francesco Gandolfi inspiring modern boats.
We take a look among the 50 boats that have already registered. We find that among the “Classic” boats over 25 years old, mythical hulls such as the 1984 Polaris 33 Alabianca, the 1990 Grand Soleil 52 Freedom, and the 1989 Jeanneau Sun Light 30 Cirilla will be on the water.
There are “little ones” such as the J/24 Mary Star of the Sea, theEste 24 Celestina 3 or the J92 Pomella J. They will have to contend with the very fast Farr 30 Sease and Padawan or the Farr 31 Hell Cat. Very elegant are the Saffier 27 Garred, or the Solaris 44 Fantasia III and Yume compared with the Grand Soleil 44 Tomira Cubed.
Among those, fierce, aiming for overall victory are the very fast J/122 Chestress 3, theItalia Yacht 11.98 To Be, the Penguin 38 Aia de Ma, theX 41 Capitani Coraggiosi, the Comet 45 S Voscià , theXP 44 My XanaX and the Swan 42 Spirit of Nerina.
