Clean boat, clean sea: word from Nuncas Marine
Nuncas, 105 years of history and know-how in household cleaning solutions, has entered the world of boats with its Marine product line. Company CEO Luca Manzoni reveals its secrets to us. One above all: if they fall into the water, they do not pollute.
“Nuncas Marine is not a marketing idea, born in an office,” is how Engineer Luca Manzoni, CEO of Nuncas, begins. The Nuncas company has a history more than a century long: in 2025, 105 years have passed since the first “raising of the shutter” of the Milan store in Piazza San Sepolcro. The person who founded it was named Nunzio Cassata: the brand name was born from the crasis of the first and last name.
Entry into boating
After years as a leader in the household sector, Nuncas now creates Marine with the same spirit that has animated the company for more than a century. The new range stems from the passion that Engineer Manzoni has for the sea, which runs through his veins: born in Rapallo, to a Genoese mother, he has always had a passion for boats, especially sailing, since he was a child. The idea of a line dedicated to the nautical world has been rattling around in his head ever since he approached the Dinghy world; in fact, at this time, in addition to holding increasingly important positions in the company, Manzoni noticed that in the nautical world there was no company like Nuncas, which offers itself to its customers as a sort of “housekeeper,” since the company is a leader in household cleaning. Just by attending Ligurian sailing clubs and bringing its products as gifts to members, Manzoni noticed that everyone praised them: hence the idea of creating an extension of its product lines dedicated also to boats (which in many respects are very similar to our homes).
Nuncas Marine. Quality before quantity
The size of the target market, certainly not immense but nonetheless international, then set off the spark: Nuncas Marine is a line developed for a niche market, therefore, that prioritizes quality over quantity. The laboratory is in-house and everything is developed “in house”: the head of research and development has been with the company for 25 years and the formulator, Vincenzo Russo, has been recognized among the best in his field by winning awards as a chemist and has fully espoused the philosophy of the Marine line.

Biodegradable in water. For real!
In particular, Nuncas ‘ new line is the only one in the world to be biodegradable in seawater-all products claimed to be biodegradable, in fact, are only biodegradable in the terrestrial environment. “Biodegrading in seawater is very difficult, because it is a liquid that contains very few bacteria,” explains Engineer Manzoni, “it took us a good two years to center the correct formula, including in our team people who cared about the marine environment and really wanted to make the Marine line their own.” Collaboration with a number of boatyards then allowed us to field test the products, enabling us to adjust the formulas to ensure maximum quality and performance.
The care of the houseboat (i.e., the sailboat)
What are the main similarities between the nautical world and the home environment? “In the home we can find many of the objects closest and dearest to us, and it is the place where we live with family and friends, as well as boats,” Manzoni tells us, “Many are the real needs that Nuncas takes care of in caring for the home: so much innovation is continually approved and implemented by us to adapt formulas or to create the right answers to changing needs. The boat, as well as a maxi RIB, is in effect a floating home, our floating home.”

Nuncas Marine. The “Top” products
We also asked Engineer Manzoni how his company’s products differ and, without uncertainty, he told us that it is precisely biodegradability in water that is the main novelty of his products, a uniqueness that raises the bar globally: “There is no product in the world that if it falls into the sea does not pollute: we have it and we were the first to do so. And we did not certify it biodegradation, but a third-party state agency which is the CNR.” All that remains is to ask which two products are really over the top among the 18 that make up the Nuncas Marine line: “Definitely the dishwashing product, because it can happen that dish soap falls into the sea and it is a polluting product; then Rib & Gelcoat also gives me great satisfaction with the results it gets: it is a magical product.” An anecdote about the Nuncas Marine line: the winners of the last two editions of the Italian Dinghy Championship cleaned their boats and hulls precisely with products from the Rib & Gelcoat line.
