Splendid days of sunshine and warmth closed the 20th Viareggio Historic Sails Gathering (Oct. 15-19), which this year achieved, not only its longest duration, but also a very large participation, with more than 60 boats confirming the importance the event has gained among international gatherings of classic hulls. Triumphing over all of them, winning the trophy Viareggio Historical Sails Trophy, Aleph, while Barbara, Crivizza e Ojalá II seize the opportunity to take the top step of the podium in their respective categories of the Claw Trophy 2025, which precisely in Viareggio saw its conclusion. But let’s go step by step.
Raduno Vele Storiche Viareggio: here are all the winners of the 2025 edition
In the next few lines all the winners and rankings, but Viareggio was not just numbers. On the water, in fact, in front of the beaches, the Navy’s school sailing ship Nave Palinuro stole the show, just as, to entertain crews and onlookers, several events and festive moments entered the scene, a typical feature of the event, as well as the parade of elegance, this year won by Ilda, by G. Fernandes and P. Cioni, a hull signed William Atkin and built in 1946.

Rankings: Claw Trophy 2025 and AIVE Rankings (cim)
We start with the conclusion of a broader course, the Artiglio Trophy 2025. After the Admiral G. Francese Trophy, Le Vele d’Epoca dell’Alto Tirreno, the Capraia Sail Rally, Argentario Sailing Week and Vele d’Epoca in Passeggiata Morin, in fact, the Vele Storiche Viareggio Rally was the concluding event of the 2025 edition of the Trophy, making it the last stop in the long series of events that characterize AIVE regattas in the second FIV zone. Here, as announced, four overall winners for the 2025 season:
- Barbara (1923), top step of the podium in the Epoca category and prize Artiglio Epoch Trophy
- Crivizza (1966), first runner-up in Classics category.
- Ojalá II (1973), champion in the Classic IOR circuit.

This, in the face of a CIM-certified AIVE ranking that saw, in Epoch, the triumph of Aleph, accompanied by that of Crivizza In Classic Yachts, Ojalá II In Classic IOR, Java in Cruiser ranking and Manuela V In class 5.50 MSI.

Rankings: Historical Sails Viareggio 2025 (and related)
To triumph, winning both the category VSV-1, and the Viareggio Historical Sails Trophy, Aleph (opening image), beautiful 16.18-meter-long Bermudian yawl, launched by the German shipyard Abeking & Rasmussen in 1951. But the event was divided into as many as 8 separate categories, each with its respective ranking (which you will find below). Here, champions for each class: LuluNikka in VSV0, Aleph In VSV 1, Danae In VSV 2, Hummingbirds In VSV 3, Crivizza In VSV 4, Clan In VSV 5, Ghostbusters in VSV 6 and Scylla in VSV 7.
Setting the stage for the Viareggio Historical Sails, the Class 5.50 Meters International Tonnage, which instead reached five trials. Here to triumph, Sandra, a 1974 Sangermani who, not only thus wins the Trophy named afterAdmiral Florindo Cerri, but also wins the Sangermani Challenge Trophy named after the historic shipyard and presented by Giacomo Sangermani.

These are then followed by ‘merit’ awards, such as the Challenge Trophy Tirrenia II, awarded to the hull that has completed the longest offshore sailing during the year. In this case, award going to the Pilgrim, 1971 ketch by E. Dalla Vecchia. On the other side, the ASDEC Award (Vintage and Classic Hulls Association), this year awarded to Ella, an award given to the boat that, among those present at the gathering, has the longest membership within the same family. The award MBL (Museum of the Larian Boat) went instead to the ketch Ninin II, as the smallest boat in the fleet.
Closing the roundup of celebrations are four hulls in particular, this year celebrating their respective important anniversaries: 60 years for Penelope of the Navy (1965), 70 years for Danae (1955) and finally 90 years for Gazelle e Oenone (1935).
