Ferrari Hypersails under construction

What do the Ferrari F80, Maranello’s first full Electric car, and the Ferrari Hypersail, which is being born and will be driven in the Ocean by Giovanni Soldini, have in common? We have told you about the motor that will be on top of the boat, namely the sails designed by North Sails, but we have not yet revealed what will be inside the boat, another motor that will be used to run all the boat’s systems. And that’s where the F80 and Hypersail have their lotus in common.

Ferrari F80 and the Hypersail Engine

The Ferrari F80

The uniqueness of the Hypersail project is based on the two-way technology transfer from the sports car sector to the nautical sector, in fact, many of the solutions adopted on board are derived from the experience gained in the production of hybrid cars and the first electric Ferrari.

As already anticipated, the flying monohull developed by Ferrari will be completely energy self-sufficient and will be able to power the various on-board systems exclusively from renewable energy sources. This major challenge, coordinated by Ferrari’s team of engineers, has led to the filing of numerous patents and the introduction of technologies never before applied to the nautical world that could be integrated into Ferrari’s sports cars in the future.
Among the most notable technical innovations is the integration of the rear axle developed for the electric Ferrari, capable of providing the power needed to generate the hydraulic pressures that drive the cylinders, sails, foils, keel and related flaps.
Completing the system, two DC-DC 800V-48V-12V modules, power converters designed for the Ferrari F80, optimize on-board power management and distribution, ensuring maximum efficiency and reliability even under the most extreme operating conditions.
