BENELLO, GAIA | NELLY
Let us proceed in chronological order, by launch, and start with a great Italian success story of the late 1960s. She is Nelly, launched in 1967 to a design by Sparkman & Stephens, a Benello Gaia. Specifically, Nelly was born on the commission of Holm, then a well-known international sailor, who raced no small amount in both the Mediterranean and the Ocean with this one. Despite her sleek, classic lines, Nelly was in fact a cruiser-racer with a good pedigree, picking up victories even after the 1980 change of ownership, still relevant today. ALPA 11 SUPERMAIC | SQUILLA MANTIS
Born from the pencil of John Illingworth, in the late 1960s alpa launched a hull destined to become a milestone in Italian shipbuilding. It is the alpa Maica, later revisited and revived in its Supermaica version, of which
Squilla Mantis
is sublime witness (#20). Launched in 1968, Squilla Mantis is now in the hands of her second owner (since 1990) and, in addition to being constantly maintained, she also bears witness to the sailing that was on the race courses of the Mediterranean-where she does not miss a beat. ONE-OFF S&S | SEA OTTER
Project No. 2062FG3 by New York firm Sparkman & Stephens,
Sea Otter
is an exceptional One Tonner IOR developed for the 1979 Admiral’s Cup. Since then, and until 2020, she has only ever sailed in the North Seas, particularly in the Baltic, only to be dry-docked for more than 15 years. Retrieved in Germany in 2020, the current ownership followed her restoration, bringing her back in the spring of 2021 as far as Antibes. From there, sailing to southern Italy, where she is now sailing again and in great shape. For more details, you can find her in the

BALTIC 39 | LA DOLCE VITA
A great Classic of Scandinavian shipbuilding, the Baltic 39 was designed by Canadians Cuthberson & Cassian in 1977, soon becoming a little gem that earned the shipyard as many as 51 launched. 1981, La Dolce Vita is part of the late series and is distinguished by impeccable construction and rich attention to detail -characteristic notoriously typical of the yard. Solid, marine and suitable for cruising as well as racing, this Baltic 39 thus remains a sailing testament to the exceptional design flair that, from the 1970s to the present day, characterizes both the yard’s signatures and heritage. ZUANELLI, FAX | BELFAX
1991, Zuanelli and Alain Jézéquel signed a gem that was destined to depopulate. It is Fax, an exceptional 9.99-meter performance cruiser. Launched in 1992, Belfax is its spokesman in the Classic Boat Club registry, celebrating a 1990s milestone in Italian sailing. Perfectly maintained, maniacally updated, she is still a not inconsiderable performer, equipped to the best of her ability to remain competitive on every racing circuit, even thirty-odd years after her launch. A testament, too, to the proverbial build quality of the shipyard, as well as to that of the design, which is still excellent decades whole. For more details, you can find her record in the
