The penultimate event of the SailGP circuit took place Oct. 4-5 in front of the port of Cadiz, the historic city of Andalusia.
SailGP in Cadiz, how it went
Saturday’s four races were characterized by a light westerly wind that gradually increased, with the organization deciding on reduced crews of 6 to 4 people. On Red Bull Italy are helmsman Ruggero Tita, flight controller Andrea Tesei, wing trimmer Kyle Langford and Maelle Frascari in the dual role of strategist and grinder.

At the end of the day the Danish team finished in 1st place, just one point ahead of Daniel Fletcher’s Great Britain, followed by Peter Burling’s New Zealand.
Change of scenery on Sunday with the morning opening with the sea and harbor immersed in a dense fog, which lifts as the westerly wind comes in, just before racing begins. Meanwhile, the organizing committee has decided that the crew must consist of five people. And so on the Italian boat goes up in addition, with the role of grinder, Enrico Voltolini.
In Sunday’s 3rd regatta we must note the victory-the first in this championship-of Martine Grael’s (34, 2 Olympic gold medals in the 49er) Brazilian team Mubadala Brazil, a leaf of Luna Rossa’s legendary tactician Torben Grael.
Sunday’s conditions were objectively difficult because the constant changes in wind direction made Tesei’s work challenging and maintaining flight stability difficult. Sunday’s three races were very technical and tested a team like the Italian team that is still consolidating its experience in the field as weather conditions change.
Red Bull Italy: “Cadiz was not our stop.”
Jimmy Spithill confirms that there is still learning to be done but, when there is only one event left before the end of the Championship, he says that “we need to put into practice the lessons learned this weekend in Cadiz and look ahead to next season.” The results of the stage are encapsulated in the final standings, which sees us in 11th place (6 – 10 – 10 – 7 – 12 – 12 – 10) while Ruggero Tita’s comment can be summed up in one sentence, “Cadiz was not our stage.”
He also confirmed that the trials have been challenging and that the team has to get used to racing with different crew configurations: three people in Geneva, four this Saturday in Cadiz, and five on Sunday. Complex situations for which the crew will have to train.
Recall that, after Geneva, in first place in the overall ranking were the Australians, followed by the British and New Zealanders.
The overall 2025 SailGP standings
The overall standings after Cadiz see Daniel Fletcher’s British team leading with 85 points, ahead of Peter Burling’s New Zealand Black Foils with 82 points and Tom Slingsby’s Australian Bonds Flying Ross with 80 points. Fourth place went to Diego Botin’s Spanish team Los Gallos with 76 points. The Spaniards are coached by Italian Simone Salvà .
The next event is for the final leg in the Emirates, scheduled for Nov. 29 and 30 with the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where the final winner will be named.
