Sailing around the world is the dream of many sailors. Today this feat is more within reach and can be done in complete safety and surrounded by like-minded people thanks to flotilla rallies. Let’s look at the three most popular circumnavigations with this ingenious formula.
Sailing around the world is a hard-to-die myth because it has always been fueled by the tales of seafaring literature, the travel diaries of illustrious sailors and mariners, and the most prestigious regattas raced in the four corners of the globe. So, then, there are many who dream of making the voyage of a lifetime, to cast off their moorings and sail the oceans. Of course, then actually realizing that dream is not easy. Today, however, it is a little more so than in the past. Thanks to an ingenious invention: flotilla rallies.
Adventures at sea are better when shared
The beauty of a round-the-world rally in a flotilla is that it allows one to accomplish a great feat under sail, but in complete safety, followed and guided by the organizers who support the participants in so many aspects, from preparing the boat and crew, to the galley, from studying the weather to navigational safety, from managing berth reservations at the various ports of call to bureaucratic procedures.
Then there is a special ingredient that is in fact the real driving force behind the entries: the festive atmosphere, the parties organized at the start and finish, the relaxed and informal atmosphere, and the desire to share a human experience. Here then is our selection of the most fascinating flotilla rallies that will start between 2027 and 2029. These are trips that require a budget of several hundred euros between boat preparation, travel and registration. However, there are those who swear they are absolutely worth it: you get to see heavenly places, forget about ordinary life and make lasting friendships. So are you ready to go?
World Arc: the sailing voyage of a lifetime
A 26,000-mile circumnavigation of the globe to be sailed all in company and in complete safety. The World Arc is a grand continuation of the classic Atlantic ARC conceived by Jimmy Cornell. It is an ocean rally designed for those who want to explore the world under sail stopping in many countries and taking their time: in fact, it takes about 3 years to complete the journey.
There is, however, the option of departing from St. Lucia (Caribbean), to land in Australia, or departing from the Australian coast to arrive in the Caribbean island. One of the advantages of the World Arc is that the organizers help participants with paperwork (visas, reservations and permits), a nontrivial element.

The Oyster World Rally was first held in 2013 to mark the shipyard’s 40th anniversary, and every year there is a rush to sign up, as places are limited.

Since then, the event has expanded with different itineraries and departures. Two itineraries are planned for the circumnavigation of the globe: the tropical route via Panama Canal and the southern route via Cape Horn, in both cases an unforgettable adventure.
Participants enjoy a range of support services and events during the stops, plus they can join along the way and take detours to visit their dream destinations.
