In this installment, we take you on a tour of the latest from Adria Ship, a brand that has contributed to the going to sea of so many sailing enthusiasts and boaters.
Adra Ship, a family affair

In these nautical times where there are often multiple owners, outside investors and money funds behind a brand, Adria Ship’s is a splendid example of a family business. And it is also the story of a passion that turns into a profession. They, the Coretti family members, are so united, complementary and enterprising that they managed to create from nothing in the late 1990s a successful nautical hub where boats have been sold, repaired and managed for more than a quarter of a century.
It all stems from the love for sailing of dad Gennaro and his son Luigi, who are supported by the shrewd management of their daughter, as well as sister, Giovanna, joined by the patient and vigilant mediation of mom Nelly.
Their enthusiasm and determination also infects Andrea, Giovanna’s husband, who takes over the logistics of the business. Thus Adria Ship was born in 1997, which at first was a simple used boat brokerage company.
After just one year, however, the prestigious Slovenian shipyard Elan chooses Adria Ship itself as its sole importer for Italy. From there on, the company experienced steady growth, and today Adria Ship is also the sole dealer of the Catana, Bali and Viko brands, as well as a broker of used boats. Today the Adria Ship brand has merged with Gerico Group, also owned by the Coretti family, which also includes World Wide Charter.

“Being unique importers,” explains Gennaro Coretti himself. makes us directly responsible for the boats proposed and sold, which translates into a high degree of reliability and guarantee for those who choose to rely on us. Our sales network, which is present throughout the country, is able to propose new and used boats and follow customers throughout the purchase process, but also, thanks to the after-sales service, in the following moments “. This close relationship with shipyards and the sailing community for nearly three decades has made Adria Ship not only an architect of the spread of sailing in our country, but also a careful witness to how boating has evolved over time.
It is no coincidence that Confindustria Nautica Nazionale a few years ago awarded Gennaro Coretti the honor of “Pioneer of Boating.” “In 30 years, the nautical world has changed radically,” says Luigi Coretti, Commercial Director of Adria Ship. the way of experiencing boats has changed, and consequently so has the way of selling and buying them. Our strength has been to adapt to these changes and go through even deep economic crises. In some ways some new trends we even anticipated here in Italy, such as the spread of catamarans or the phenomenon of management boats. Nobody gave us credit at the beginning, while today they are both two concrete realities “.

The evolution of Adria Ship’s business led a few years ago to the company’s acquisition of Darsena San Marco in Grado (Gorizia), which is the current location of its operational offices. A large and functional space that now offers an in-house restaurant, fuel station, washrooms with laundry, and more than 100 berths. The dock is also equipped with travel lifts and offers shipbuilding services, seasonal maintenance and indoor storage for small boats.
Finally, there is a large warehouse with accessories and spare parts that the company resells both through the physical store and an online shop (www.abordoshop.com). “Our location in this multifunctional form increases our stability and credibility with customers ,” Luigi Coretti further explains, ” and then it helps us diversify the business by creating an even wider range of services that are highly appreciated.
All of this is not built with the idea of being mere tradesmen. It takes experience and expertise, an unwavering passion, and above all a long journey of growth that also goes through difficult times.
He tells it himself, Gennaro Coretti, who is also a journalist and author of numerous books on boating, in a kind of family diary and a tribute to the history of the Adria Ship brand published in 2022 entitled “I did not make sand castles” (Luglio Editore, 154 pages, 14 euros). It is a very engaging text that reveals many behind-the-scenes stories of the company’s activities, successes and even bizarre or hilarious moments, always lived with great tenacity and spirit of togetherness.
Important values that deserve esteem and respect. We at the Giornale della Vela who have been following the activities of Adria Ship all these years were not surprised when Gennaro Coretti himself in 2022 won the “Sailor of the Year” award in the Owner category. A recognition of the courage, talent and determination of Gennaro and his inseparable family clan.
