New America’s Cup challenge, new partnership for Luna Rossa, which has announced the club with which it will participate in the America’s Cup in Naples in 2o27: in fact, the Circolo del Remo e della Vela Italia in Naples will be Luna Rossa’s challenge club, a decision that is also symbolic given that the Neapolitan capital will host the next edition of the Old Jug. Luna Rossa thus bids farewell to the Circolo della Vela Sicilia, with which it faced the challenges of San Francisco 2012, Auckland 2020 and Barcelona 2024.

In the America’s Cup, the Yacht Club has a strongly symbolic but also an effective value, since without a Yacht Club recognized by the Cup holder, the challenge of a potential Challenger cannot be accepted. Luna Rossa in its history has been linked to the Yacht Club Punta Ala, the Yacht Club Italiano, and the Circolo della Vela Sicilia. For the Italy Sailing and Rowing Club, founded in 1889, this is a first.

Luna Rossa. Bertelli’s Commentary

For the first time in its 176-year history, the America’s Cup is being held in Italy, in Naples,” said Patrizio Bertelli, Luna Rossa president. ” For this reason, after three consecutive editions in collaboration with the Circolo della Vela Sicilia, it seemed natural for us to be represented by a Yacht Club that not only enjoys an extraordinary international reputation but also has deep ties with the city. On behalf of the team, I would like to thank the CVS, its members and its President Agostino Randazzo for the support and affection with which they have accompanied us over the years. Together we have experienced extraordinary moments, crowned by the unforgettable victories of the 2021 PRADA Cup in Auckland and the Youth and Women America’s Cups in Barcelona. We are confident that CVS will be the protagonist of other important challenges and we wish them every success for future goals “.
