She is made of steel and carbon, has classic lines, a dreamy interior, and most importantly she will sail (not like some cruise ships with lightning rods). At 62 meters, Simena enters the top 25 largest sailboats in the world. But unlike many XXL sisters, this one while made with modern materials and state-of-the-art technology, has the taste and flavor of an old-time yacht.

A 62-meter ketch that looks like something out of an illustration by Herreshoff(the Leonardo Da Vinci of sailing), but under the skin has more carbon and technology than an ocean racing boat. That’s Simena, the first sailing superboat launched by the Turkish shipyard ARES Yachts: a brand-new boat that brings together everything we like-classic style, modern solutions, lots of sailing-and nothing we’re bored with: pool-decks, helicopters, and disco wet bars.

Simena: classical outside, modern inside

Sixty-two meters long, built of steel and composite, with a ketch rig and designed out by Taka Yacht Design, Simena will be officially unveiled at the upcoming Monaco Yacht Show (Sept. 24-27, 2025). But she has already made the list of the world’s 25 largest sailboats. And best of all – unlike some “motoryachts in disguise” – this one actually goes sailing.

To see her from the outside, Simena makes you want to cast off your moorings right away. Teak deck, sleek masts, mahogany trim, old-fashioned ketch proportions. But it’s inside (and underneath) where things get really interesting: the boat is hybrid, with a diesel-electric propulsion system that allows her to travel in silent mode at up to 6 knots. And when push is needed, an 882 kW (1183 hp) motor kicks in, taking her up to 14.5 knots. When cruising, she goes comfortably at 11 knots and has 4,000 miles of range.

The interior, by Design Unlimited, is a calibrated mix of dark woods, natural leathers, and brass details, with a few hidden goodies such as hideaway TVs. It accommodates 12 guests and 9 crew members, with the master cabin positioned on the main deck, forward.

In the top league of superyacht sailing

At 62 meters, Simena ranks among the giants of sailing. To make a point: she is shorter than the infamous Koru, Jeff Bezos’s 127-meter Koru (which, however, is more of a ship with masts than a real sailboat), but she stands in the wake of such famous names as Athena (90 m), Maltese Falcon (88 m), Aquijo (86 m) and Perseus^3 (60 m).

Compared to these, Simena does not aim to impress with futuristic gadgets or resort-worthy decks: it is designed for those who really love sailing, but without sacrificing anything in terms of comfort and autonomy.

A statement of purpose

We have built a boat that raises the bar on style, comfort and performance,” said Piraye Sahinkaya Orhun, Yachts Projects Director at ARES Yachts. Mission accomplished: Simena is a boat that speaks volumes-no need to shout “I’m rich,” just look at the sail plan.

And for those who were wondering: yes, Simena is for sale. It’s not for everyone, of course. But at least, this, this is a sailboat for real.
