As you should know by now, the Sailing Newspaper, founded in July 1975, is celebrating its first 50 years this year, and among the many initiatives we have decided to set up to celebrate together with you, our readers, it is time to introduce you to the one we perhaps care about most.
This is the new issue of our (but mostly yours) Giornale della Vela Anniversary 50 Years Special, a unique, iconic and collectible issue designed for all enthusiasts who want to have a piece of Italian sailing history at home.

How to get the Special Collector’s Issue of the 50th Anniversary of the Journal of Sailing
Want to secure the 50th anniversary celebration issue of the Sailing Newspaper? Getting it is so easy! If you subscribe by July 20 to the Giornale della Vela with the print + digital formula , you will receive a free Special Issue at home (while supplies last) in addition to your regular annual subscription to GDV. An unmissable opportunity not to miss a single one of the sea stories, investigations and boats that we tell in our pages throughout the year.
Do you prefer the allure of the newsstand? You can also find the 50th anniversary issue in the most classic way: run to the newsstand and ask your newsagent for the new issue. It’s easy to distinguish: the cover is laminated with a metallic effect, and the gold-colored “50” shines on the shelf.
What you will find inside the Special Issue
The special 50th anniversary issue of the Sailing Newspaper is divided into thematic sections covering half a century of sailing history.
It starts with “History,” a chronological reconstruction of the history of sailing through 50 iconic covers and the most significant facts from 1975 to the present: from the great ocean adventures to technological innovations, through regattas, personalities and moments that have marked the world of sailing.
This is followed by the “Us & You” section, a large collective mural combining iconic images from the Sail Newspaper archive with photographs submitted by you, the readers: boating vacations, animals on board, reflections, memories and passions shared by a community of more than two million sea lovers. Don’t stop sending them to us!
The third part, “Best Story,” collects the most unforgettable stories published in 50 years of GdV: adventures, crossings, encounters and testimonies that have made the history of Italian and international sailing, selected by browsing through all issues of the magazine from 1975 to the present.
Finally, the “Many Thanks” section, which is a tribute to the companies, designers, shipyards, and protagonists who have helped make the sailing world and the Giornale della Vela itself great. A journey through the excellences and innovations that have marked the industry, told through interviews, stories and insights.
Remember that the Sail Newspaper ‘ s birthday does not end here: find online in the special section “Sailing 50 Years” all the best sea stories published in these 50 years of the magazine, even those that – for reasons of space – we could not fit in the Special Issue.
