Since the mid-1990s, large sailing yachts have evolved underwater and particularly in keels. The previous shallow draft fin shape evolved into the inverted T shape and a tendency to increase draft-a problem for entry into shallow harbors. Thus, the next big evolutionary step was the switch to movable keels. And APM began creating lifting keels that, for example, for a 30-meter yacht offered a maximum draft of 5.5 meters. This is because, born in 1990 from the passion of a group of engineers, passionate sailors, who still run the business today, APM still develops, manufactures and delivers the finished keels, ready to be installed. In a short time, it has become a leader in the superyacht industry for efficient and reliable keels and keel components.
APM Keels
The APM package, fully CNC machined, tested, and ready for installation, includes telescoping keels, lifting keels with carbon slip cases, fixed keels, pivoting keels, movable daggerboard keels, and standard or crash safe nose lead bulbs. A customized engineering package is provided for each project: complete 2D and 3D drawings, structural study, and FEA stress analysis, including grounding and fatigue events. The list of shipyards using APM retractable keels speaks for itself: Baltic Yachts, Nautor Swan, Wally, Persico Marine, Royal Huisman, Solaris, MSY, Maxi Dolphin, Mylius, King Marine, Perini Navi, Pendennis.
