The VELA Cup summer gets into full swing with the first Sardinian leg of 2025: from June 27 to 29, the Marina of Porto Rafael, the pearl of Gallura overlooking the crystal clear waters of the Maddalena Archipelago, will host the VELA Cup Porto Rafael – Palau. An unmissable event for all sailing lovers, from experienced racers to cruisers, to those who simply want to experience a weekend of sport, nature and fun. Here’s why you can’t miss it!
Racing in postcard-perfect locations
Really anyone can participate in the VELA Cup Porto Rafael: no need for tonnage certificates or special memberships, just a desire to sail and have fun. Classic boats, modern racers, small cabin cruisers or Latin Sail boats (with dedicated course and prizes): everyone can find their size and compete on equal terms thanks to the VELA Cup’s compensation system. The regatta course, designed by champion Camillo Zucconi, traverses some of the most spectacular corners of the northern Sardinian coastline, providing breathtaking views between the Rada di Mezzo Schifo, the Gulf of Palau, Spargi and Spargiotto.
Two days of free mooring for members
Signing up for the VELA Cup Porto Rafael – Palau will entitle you to two nights’ free mooring at the Marina of Porto Rafael (subject to availability): a unique opportunity to experience the event carefree and enjoy the most authentic Sardinia ashore as well.

- 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. – VELA Cup Point opening for registration finalization, gift bag and numbers pickup
Saturday, June 28
- 09:30 a.m. Briefing at the Marina of Porto Rafael
- 11:00 a.m. – Starting Procedures VELA Cup Porto Rafael – Palau
- after the regatta – Regatta in the Kitchen with Nieddittas mussels (read below)
- 6:00 p.m. – VELA Cup Porto Rafael Awards Ceremony – Palau and Regatta in the Kitchen
- After the award ceremony – Party and DJ set organized by Aether Porto Rafael
Not just regatta: cooking competition, party and prizes for all
The VELA Cup does not stop at sea: after the regatta, the dock comes alive with the “Regatta in Cucina,” a gastronomic challenge between crews based on Sardinian Nieddittas black mussels, followed by music, food and drinks. The prize-giving is not only about the winners on the water: lots of raffle prizes and a big party with DJ set by Aether Porto Rafael await all participants, because at the VELA Cup you win just by being there.
Special awards for Caprera alumni
If you attended the Caprera Sailing Center, this is your chance: all crews with at least one “Caprerino” on board compete for a dedicated ranking. Just mention it during registration to experience even more of the Porto Rafael – Palau VELA Cup as a protagonist!
