The First 36 is one of the sportiest boats recently produced by Beneteau, designed by Sam Manuard with Lorenzo Argento, which is now also offered in a SE version more dedicated to racing. And also collaborating with the project, which is also designed for the Italian market and oriented to ORC racing regulations, is Studio Cossutti/Ganz .
FIRST 36 SE – What will change?
The boat, following a series of optimizations in interior and deck fittings, will weigh 400 kg less than the original First 36 version, which will instead become the more cruising-oriented version. Gone are the wheel rudders and in comes the tiller, the mast will be carbon fiber as standard and with a Square top mainsail. The upwind sail area will be about 4 sq. m. larger than the previous version, with an addition of horsepower that will be felt especially in breezes.
The sea intakes will be set flush as standard, and minor changes have been made to the shape of the keel to better accommodate ORC regulations and make the boat competitive in compensated time. Given the geometries of the hull, which is very wide, and the double rudder blade, the boat will still remain geared toward offshore racing rather than stick racing.
