Athyris dominates Portopiccolo
The second leg of the 23rd edition of the Grand Soleil Cup, held in Portopiccolo, near Trieste, June 13-15, has concluded. The event, which was organized directly by Cantiere del Pardo, saw the participation of 43 boats, setting a record for the Adriatic leg. In total, between the two Tyrrhenian and Adriatic legs, there are currently 83 boats participating in the 2025 edition.
Victory went to Athyris, Sergio Taccheo’s Grand Soleil 48 Race, which finished first both in real time and overall. In second place finished Forever, a GS58 rigged by Claudio Bernoni; in third place was the GS44 Race of Raoul Gambillare Flying, a boat model that was also recently awarded “Boat of the Year.”
Grand Soleil Cup 2025: Two days of low wind
On Saturday, weather conditions allowed for a traverse start, with a breeze that reached 12 knots on the first upwind; then with wind almost close to becalmed, the group rounded the third mark. On the second day of racing, the fleet was engaged in a coastal race with light but steady winds, which ended early between mark 2 and mark 3.
Official debut for the new GS 52 models: Black Pekoe III, in Race version, by Ernesto Folli and Albatross, in Performance declination, by Alberto Cocchi. Also part of the fleet were historical models built by Grand Soleil, such as the GS 42, 45 and 52 designed by German Frers and also a rare 1974 GS 34 designed by Jean-Marie Finot.
