Guido Bernardinelli (click here to learn more about Bernardelli’s sailing history) repeats himself and repeats his world success in the H-boat class after last year’s victory!
The cup remains in Italy
ITA 555, this is the sail number of the boat of Bernardinelli ‘s crew and completed by Flavio Favini, Nicola Bonarrigo, Stefano Rizzi (with Simona Hollermamann as backup), bearer of the AVAV of Luino, triumphed at the world championship regattas held in Ebensee, Austria, winning its second rainbow title.
“There were 70 boats present, with a single starting line and no batteries-incredible to see so many H-boats together,” Guido tells us, who continues,“it was tough, because the wind did not assist us. Five races were needed to validate the world championship, and at the last one on Saturday night we were well ahead of the second; too bad that with 200 m to go they cancelled the race, extending the event by a day.” Those who know helmsman Flavio Favini, however, know that the Luino in light breezes is at ease…
On Sunday, fortunately, everything went smoothly and two races were sailed, which for ITA 555 earned a seventh and a first place; after the discards of the two worst races, however, Guido Bernardinelli’s crew reconfirmed itself as the best in the World, bringing the H-boat world cup to Italy for the second consecutive time.
What boat is the Hboat
The H-Boat is a sailboat designed for racing, with a length of 8.28 meters and a width of 2.18 meters. It is built of fiberglass and has a sail area of 25 m², with a 14.8 m² mainsail.
This model is known for its versatility, suitable for both racing and sport cruising (it has a small cabin). It was developed by Helsingfors Segelsällskap in Finland and put into production in 1967; the H in the initials does not refer to the designer’s name as one might imagine, but recalls the Greek deity Hestia, goddess of the family.
