The team formed by Giancarlo Simeoli and Niccolò Bertola won the fourth stage of the Giro d’Italia a Vela, the highlight event of the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour 2025. With the Adriatic descent over, the Figaro 3 fleet is ready to depart for Catanzaro.
The descent of the Adriatic for the fleet of crews engaged in the Giro d’Italia a Vela 2025 is coming to an end, and after so many miles we are clearly beginning to see the state of form and concentration of the competing athletes. Who for the moment is the best of all is certainly the pair formed by Giancarlo Simeoli and Niccolò Bertola at the helm of the “Aeronautica Militare” team that after winning the Vieste leg, also won the Brindisi one. Great enthusiasm for them, although the circumnavigation of the Italian coast is still long and the other crews will certainly not be watching.
A long stern to Brindisi
The fourth stage of the Giro d’Italia sailing race had started last June 10 with the ten crews lined up at the start aboard the Figaro 3 one-designs. Fresh winds of 15 to 18 knots accompanied the first few miles upwind in the direction of the Tremiti Islands and then left the island of Pianosa to starboard. At that point great stern ride of about 140 miles to Brindisi always in the same wind conditions. “Aeronautica Militare” immediately took the lead of the fleet and always maintained a good gap on the pursuers. A couple of gybes to the Bari crossbeam to cover their opponents and off they went to cross the finish line. Behind them in second place was the Turkish team “Goztepe Yelken” of Anton Germeshausen and Max Wentzel, while in third place finished the Indian team “Royal Madras Yacht Club” under the command of Charlie Fernandez and Joe Slipper.
Upon arrival in Brindisi, the crews all arrived quite exhausted from a long leg tackled almost all of the way downwind. In these conditions the Figaro 3s perform excellently, but to go fast requires a great deal of physical effort from the crew.
Waszp and WingFoil thrill the Village
At the end of the offshore trial, three days of intense and exciting racing took place in the waters of Brindisi for the Waszp and WingFoilì categories, which, thanks to the favorable wind conditions, resulted in exciting races with a very high technical level. Among the foiler dinghies in the end it was the “Guardia di Finanza” team that won the stage victory, followed by the “Marina Militare” team in second place and the Royal Madras team in third place.
Among the WingFoil in the high-adrenaline trials the team of the “Navy” prevailed, winning the top step of the podium. In second place came the “Aeronautica Militare” team followed in third place by the “Verein Seglerhaus Am Wannsee” team. In short, a great Giro d’Italia also in shore trials.
And now course to Catanzaro! We are waiting for you…
Having closed the Brindisi stage in a great way, the whole caravan of the Giro d’Italia a Vela 2025 is ready to set off again ahead of the fifth stage that will take the crews to Catanzaro. It will be another challenging trip for the athletes and a new village ashore with a schedule full of cultural events and entertainment for the Calabrian city that already hosted the Giro d’Itala a Vela in the last edition. Sports, environmental protection, culture, tourism and food and wine are the themes that will be presented at the Port Area of the Catanzaro Lido.
As a reminder, Giro d’Italia a Vela 2025 is an event organized by Difesa Servizi in collaboration with the Navy and SSI Sports &Events. Also supporting the event is ENIT-Italian Tourism Agency, the main partner of the tour, the Italian Sailing Federation, the patronage of Coni and the Presidency of the Council of Ministers-Department for Sport as institutional partners, and finally us at Giornale della Vela, as media partner.
