The final arrivals of the Loro Piana Giraglia are underway in Genoa, an edition of the offshore race marked by very light winds, which put a strain on the more than 100 participants. So many retirements due to the becalmed conditions, even the maxis suffered to finish the race, suffice it to say that the 100-footer Scallywag, winner in real time, took over 30 hours to complete the course. The handicap rankings are now being outlined almost definitively, let’s take a look at which boats are in the podium area.
Loro Piana Giraglia 2025, the winners
Those who prevailed in a difficult, highly technical race were the boats with good boating skills (since there were few phases of carrying gaits), and the lighter, snappier boats with a good ratio of sail plan to displacement.
For the IRC overall classification, the one that awards the overall victory of the regatta, success went to Gian Marco Magrini’s Ken 40 Vito 2, in second place was Alessandro Del Bono’s maxi 80 Capricorno, and third place went to Pete Smyth’s Ker 46 Searcher.
In ORC came out a boat with strong boating skills, which was able to interpret even light wind conditions well: the overall ORC victory should go to Luca Locatelli’s Swan 45 Thetis. Second place for another Swan 45, Alberto Magnani’s Thenger. Third place for the surprising Scricca, Leonardo Servi’s Comet 38S.
