Don’t miss your chance to be a part of it!

The regatta for all in a unique place

The VELA Cup Porto Rafael – Palau is, like all the circuit regattas, a true celebration of sailing open to all kinds of boats and owners. You don’t need tonnage certificates or special memberships: all you need is the desire to sail and have fun. Whether you have a Classic Boat, a modern racer, a small cabin cruiser or a Latin sailboat (for Latin sails there will be dedicated course, prizes and ranking), in Porto Rafael you will have the chance to compete on equal terms with other boats, thanks to the new VELA Cup compensation system, in one of the havens we all envy.

The course of the VELA Cup in Porto Rafael – Palau

The regatta route, designed by champion Camillo Zucconi, crosses some of the most evocative corners of the Gallura coast: from the Rada di Mezzo Schifo to the Gulf of Palau, passing through Cala Francese, the islands of Spargi and Spargiotto, to Secca Corsara and Punta Coda Sardegna. An itinerary that offers breathtaking views and the chance to sail in crystal clear waters.

Not just regatta: party, food and prizes for all

Nieddittas mussels will be the main ingredient of the Regatta in the Kitchen, the challenge organized on the dock between the crews of the VELA Cup in Porto Rafael – Palau, a second challenge ashore after the sea race

The VELA Cup does not stop at sea. After the regatta, the dock at Porto Rafael Marina will come alive with the “Regatta in the Kitchen,” a gastronomic challenge where crews will try their hand at preparing dishes made with black Sardinian mussels provided by stage partner Nieddittas, being judged by a panel of experts.

The evening will then continue with music, food and drinks before the awards ceremony, where in addition to the winners in the sea there will be lots of raffle prizes for all participants, because at the VELA Cup you win just for participating. And then the night continues with music for all crews, thanks to the DJ set organized by Aether Porto Rafael.

Some of the boats already registered

Vèlite 2, the stunning Baltic 33 you’ll find in the water at Porto Rafael

What are the boats that will take part in the VELA Cup in Porto Rafael? We tell you about them. We start with a true queen among the Classic Boats: “Vèlite 2,” a Baltic 33 from 1975. The current owner, Nicola Filia, recounts, “I am the fourth owner. After a major restoration, the boat participated in the Rendez Vous Baltic in 2023, taking third place in its category. The following year she finished eighth at Formenton and won the Legionnaires’ Regatta among the Classics. In 2024 she won the Elegant Boat title at the VELA Cup at the Cala dei Sardi Marina. Launched in 1975, Vèlite 2 is the second in a series of 42, based at the Portisco Marina.”

Antonino Venneri’s ClubSwan 42 “Suspiria The Revenge” will be at the VELA Cup Marina in Porto Rafael-Palau

Scrolling through the entry list, modern boats also stand out, such as “Mira,” a 2020 Grand Soleil 52 LC by Fortunato Unali, and “Feu Vert II,” a 2015 9-meter Eryd 30 armed by Edoardo Bulgheroni. There is no shortage of boats outside the box, such as the Rodman 42Cheyenne,” a former King of Spain boat, which adds a touch of history and prestige to the VELA Cup fleet in Porto Rafael. Our last name for you: the very fast ClubSwan 42 Suspiria The Revenge of Antonino Venneri, winner of the Giraglia 2023 (combined ranking).

Have you done Caprera? Read about it below!

If you are a “Caprerino”-that is, you have attended one of the courses of the famous CVC, Centro Velico Caprera-the VELA Cup Porto Rafael – Palau has a truly exclusive opportunity in store for you. In fact, at the June 28 regatta, all crews with at least one Caprera alumnus on board will be able to compete for prizes and a ranking designed especially for them. It is a special way to celebrate belonging to one of Italy’s most iconic sailing schools, catch up with old shipmates and share a passion for the sea in places that have marked the history of so many. To participate, simply indicate it in the appropriate section when you register: it will be an opportunity to sail again among the waters of the Maddalena Archipelago as protagonists, with a dedicated award and the chance to be on the awards stage during the big VELA Cup dock party.
