A new extension of the2025 engine ecobonus has been announced: there is time until noon on July 15 to take advantage of the funding designed to encourage the scrapping of endothermic engines in favor of electric ones. This is the second postponement decided by the Ministry of Business and the Made in Italy after the one that had already caused the measure’s deadline to slip from May 8, the first scheduled deadline, to June 10.
Funds still available
The reasons, as explained in the executive decree extending the date, are still those that had prompted the first postponement: thewide availability of funds due to a lack of demand. And this, the decree points out, despite a “considerable interest” generated by the initiative, which in effect puts on the table a generous grant that, for those who want to upgrade to an electric outboard or inboard, can be up to 50 percent of the cost incurred.
Just arm yourself with good patience
The procedures for accessing the ecobonus, many boaters have reported to us, are a bit cumbersome. Yet it was enough to imitate what was done with cars. Nonetheless, this nautical ecobonus still remains an attractive opportunity for those wishing to convert to electric, perhaps taking advantage of it to scrap their old outboard. All it takes is to arm yourself with a little patience.
The key points of the Ecobonus
– This is a fund intended to finance the scrapping of endothermic engines and their replacement with electric motors and, if necessary, the purchase of battery packs for their use and installation.
– Only one application may be submitted, which may be for the purchase of up to 2 electric motors if the applicant is an individual, and multiple motors if the applicant is anenterprise that owns recreational craft used for commercial, sporting or social purposes.
– The subsidy for each outboard electric motor with an integrated battery power of not less than 0.5 Kw and up to 12 Kw is 2,000 euros, and for outboard motors with an external battery, inboard, inboard-outboard or propulsion POD is 10,000 euros.
– It is granted on a non-repayable basis and covers up to 50 percent of eligible expenses with a ceiling of 8,000 euros in the case of an application coming from an individual and up to 50,000 euros in the case of a company.
Where to apply
The application to obtain the ecobonus must be submitted through Invitalia’s ‘special online counter and is required to have a digitalidentity (SPID, CNS, CIE), a digital signature and a certified e-mail address (PEC). Among the documents to be submitted, in addition to a description of the expenses for which the subsidy is requested, an indication of the amount of the subsidy requested, and a suitable cost estimate certifying the cost of replacing the engine (as well as that of a battery pack, if any), the details of the navigation license for recreational craft registered in the Central Telematic Archive of Recreational Craft (ATCN), or the Declaration of Construction or Importation (DCI) for the recreational craft for which the electric propulsion unit is intended, showing the serial number of the endothermic engine to be scrapped. The DCI is issued by Confindustria Nautica through a dedicated telematics portal. You can find all the instructions issued by Confindustria Nautica here.
