Fifty years of history deserves to be celebrated properly, not only with a big party for all sea lovers, not only with a Special Issue(we are working on it, you will find it on newsstands in July!) but also with an item of clothing that is up to the occasion. The Polo shirt celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Giornale della Vela is not a simple T-shirt, but a concentrate of technology, design and tailoring, born from the meeting between the world of boating and the world of top-level motorsport. We gave it exclusively to the Sailors of the Year 2025 and to all the crews who participated in the VELA Cup Toscana. Now we tell you what is behind the exclusive polo shirt celebrating 50 years of the Giornale della Vela.
Signing off on this unique project is Racing Spirit, one of the brands of Racing Force Group, an Italian company that is a global leader in safety equipment for auto racing, from Formula 1 to the World Rally Championship to major American championships such as NASCAR and IndyCar. The Racing Spirit brand was born out of OMP ‘s long experience in racewear, the fireproof clothing used in racing, designed with strict safety and performance standards, dressing legends such as Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher over the years, up to the present day with Mercedes drivers Andrea Kimi Antonelli and George Russell, thanks to the historic agreement with Adidas. Also in Formula 1, through the Bell brand, Racing Force supplies its helmets to 15 of the 20 drivers on the grid. Racing Spirit made its world debut in boating in 2024 as the supplier of uniforms for Team Brady (“stable” owned by football champion Tom Brady) for the E1 Series, the world’s first foiling electric powerboat championship.
Technology and tailoring: a polo shirt like no other
The goal? To create a polo shirt that would combine the technical DNA typical of motorsport clothing with the needs of those who live the sea every day. The result is a top-of-the-line garment, created entirely in Italy with high-tech tailoring processes: from the laser cutting of the fabrics to the assembly and stitching, every detail is taken care of as if it were a Formula 1 racing suit. The printing of the logo and graphics is done by sublimation: the fabric is printed with the garment open, with no applications or embroidery to weigh the garment down, guaranteeing impeccable aesthetics, brilliant colors and durability.
The fabric chosen for the polo shirt is not classic pique, but a smooth fiber (for a perfect print), super soft to the touch, breathable and antibacterial (no bad odors even after a long day on the boat), quick-drying and UV-resistant. It does not fade, does not need to be ironed, does not shrink, and can be washed with other garments without risk of color loss. The collar is reinforced to stay in shape, even after many uses.

Limitless customization
The creation of this polo shirt was made possible thanks to the “Teamwear 2.0” project, which allows for the customization of each garment (to dress an entire crew, for example) by choosing from different fabrics, graphics and colors, up to the possibility of creating a unique version especially for each crew member. This solution combines the high possibility of customization of the finished garment (usually with limited colors in the catalog and patches applied ex-post) with custom tailoring that allows you to truly choose everything. The control is on the garment at 360°, in fact you can choose the type of fabric (there are also several certified sustainable ones), the printing (any color, design, shape) and any additional details (this is the case of our polo shirt, made with ad-hoc reinforced collar) with the guarantee of a product entirely made in Italy.
