Long sailing voyages, or why not touring the world while almost always living on a boat, is a dream of many, but not all sailboats are suitable for such endeavors. It is precisely for this reason that the so-called blue water cruiser category was born, boats that have precise characteristics ideal for demanding sailings: sturdiness, designed to be virtually unsinkable, very comfortable, and autonomous from an energy point of view. We reviewed 3 of them, which are characterized by a very distinctive style, all made of aluminum.
Globetrotting Boats. Delos Explorer 53 – 16 meters

Commissioned by YouTube stars Karin and Brian Trautman, it was designed by De Villiers Design, and built by Stradbroke Yachts. It is a modernly styled, 16-meter-long aluminum catamaran designed exclusively for exploring the planet. Hence the choice of the deckhouse design, conceived expressly to be able to accommodate a massive battery of solar brushes. The helm station is inside the salon, and the winches have been moved in front of the deckhouse, for an unusual rigging layout. Completing the design are shallow draft dinghies, to be able to explore even bays with less draft, and rudders with protective skegs.
Ovni 490 – 14.90 meters
When you read the name Alubat Marine you immediately think of aluminum boats and the legendary Ovni, which have made the history of this shipyard. Solid, indestructible boats, with a series that will soon see the arrival of a new flagship, the Ovni 490. Bayonet drift, single rudder, a kind of double deckhouse to ensure maximum protection of the cockpit, these are the characteristics of the 15-meter designed by Mortain/Mavrikios and CBA. A boat with no compromise on comfort and construction solutions aimed at making her a perfect world turner.
Globetrotting boats. Boreal 56 – 17.12 meters

A natural evolution of the Boreal 52 and 55, this 17-meter aluminum craft was designed by Jean-François Delvoye for the French yard specializing in bluewater cruisers. It is a boat with generous volumes, also with a double solution for the deckhouse somewhat like the Ovni 490, and with a very wide hull oriented to load-bearing gaits. The hull is sharp-edged, with redans continuing towards the bow to deflect water flow and keep the deck drier. The interior is decidedly bright, characterized by a handcrafted style and customizable. In fact, the Boreal 56 was born as a semi-custom boat.
