From June 27-29, the Marina of Porto Rafael, an authentic jewel set among the granite rocks of Gallura, will host the VELA Cup of Porto Rafael-Palau.. The regatta will be Saturday, June 28, and if you sign up you have two days of free mooring in the paradise you see above.

The regatta on Saturday, June 28 is open to all types of boats, from dinghies to cruising boats, with no certificates or age limits. There are two categories of the regatta: Cruising Boat, designed for those who want to have relaxing fun with white sails only, and Sport Boat, for those who want to test themselves with headsails and competitive spirit. New for this edition is the participation of Latin sails, which will have dedicated course, ranking and prizes, as well as free registration and mooring.

The course of the VELA Cup Porto Rafael

The regatta course, designed by sailor Camillo Zucconi, traverses some of the most beautiful parts of the coast around Porto Rafael: from the Rada di Mezzo Schifo to the Gulf of Palau, passing through Cala Francese and La Maddalena, the islands of Spargi and Spargiotto, to Secca Corsara and Punta Coda Sardegna, and then back to the Marina of Porto Rafael.

Vèlite 2, the stunning Baltic 33 you’ll find in the water at Porto Rafael

What are the boats that will take part in the VELA Cup in Porto Rafael? We tell you about them. We start with a true queen among the Classic Boats: “Vèlite 2,” a Baltic 33 from 1975. The current owner, Nicola Filia, recounts, “I am the fourth owner. After a major restoration, the boat participated in the Rendez Vous Baltic in 2023, taking third place in its category. The following year she finished eighth at Formenton and won the Legionnaires’ Regatta among the Classics. In 2024 she won the Elegant Boat title at the VELA Cup at the Cala dei Sardi Marina. Launched in 1975, Vèlite 2 is the second in a series of 42, based at the Portisco Marina.”

Antonino Venneri’s ClubSwan 42 “Suspiria The Revenge” will be at the VELA Cup Marina in Porto Rafael-Palau

Scrolling through the entry list, modern boats also stand out, such as “Mira,” a 2020 Grand Soleil 52 LC by Fortunato Unali, and “Feu Vert II,” a 2015 9-meter Eryd 30 armed by Edoardo Bulgheroni. There is no shortage of boats outside the box, such as the Rodman 42Cheyenne,” a former King of Spain boat, which adds a touch of history and prestige to the VELA Cup fleet in Porto Rafael. Our last name for you: the very fast ClubSwan 42 Suspiria The Revenge of Antonino Venneri, winner of the Giraglia 2023 (combined ranking).
