What the Special Anniversary 50th Birthday GdV will look like.

But today we go into more detail, telling you how it will be structured: the “heart” of the Special Anniversary 50th GdV issue is divided into four major sections, let’s discover them together.


History – The history of sailing through covers and facts

In this first section you will find the reconstruction, in chronological order, of the history of sailing through 50 covers of the Journal of Sailing and 50 facts that happened from 1975 to 2025 and selected by our editorial staff in countless (and sometimes “heated”) meetings. An essential tool for understanding what sailing has been, what it is, what it will be.


Us & You – The Great Sea Lover Mural

In the second section of the special issue we searched the archives for iconic images from the history of sailing, the sea and yachting. You have sent us yours (and are continuing to send them to us, in the “Submit Your Photo” section): lots of them, more than 600! The best ones will be hosted in the We&You section. Thanks to you, we have together created the Sail Newspaper’s Sea Lovers Mural on paper. A community of two million enthusiasts coming together.


Best Story – The unforgettable stories from the GdV archive

In the third section of the special issue, “Best Story,” we browsed through the 554 issues of the Journal of Sailing that we published from July 1975 to the present and chose the best stories that have appeared in the pages of the GdV in half a century. We’ve extracted the best gist of the history of modern sailing, a roundup of these rushing 50 years that revolutionized going to sea, culture, and the way of life and sailing. Because remembering is important for understanding the future that lies ahead.


Many Thanks – Fifty Years of Excellence

The last section is called “Many Thanks”: a tribute to the companies and people who have made Il Giornale della Vela great over the past 50 years allowing it to be born, grow, and become great until this historic anniversary at 50. In these pages you will find an important contribution to the knowledge of the multifaceted world of sailing that allows us all to go to sea, in all forms and contexts.
