The weekend at the turn of May and June (two weeks from now) is the perfect opportunity (for those who haven’t already done so) to return to the sea aboard your boat. The opportunity is great, and we’ll explain it right away. Friday, May 30 marks the start of the VELA Cup Puglia party weekend at the Marina di Brindisi, because from the afternoon the registration point is active where you can sign up or finalize your registration and pick up the very rich Gift Bag with all the gadgets offered by our partners and the number to stick on the bow. On Saturday, May 31, we start in the morning with the crew briefing and then take to the water for the regatta. Below we explain all the details.
The route of the VELA Cup Puglia 2025
The starting line of the VELA Cup Puglia will be positioned north of the Puntariso Dam, outside the port of Brindisi. The first destination is the buoy near the Punta Penne-Punta del Serrone Area of Natural and Historical Interest. From there, a nice ride along the coast to the second buoy, which is located not far from theTorre Guaceto Marine Protected Area. Then you tack and head back to the starting line. Total: about 13 miles of fun!
Those who have already registered for the VELA Cup.
There are many boats that have already registered for the regatta and will try to beat Andrea Milizia’s Farr 39 Flash, winner of the last two editions in the “Sport Boat” category, and Giorgio Travaini’sHanse 411 Granbazza, last year’s “Leg Winner.” Among them, confirming the “for all” spirit of the VELA Cup, many cruisers, such as Davide Piazzo’s Bavaria 38 Match Excellent, Roberto De Milito’s Dufour 32 Classic Idee Fixe, Giuseppe Bottacci’sOceanis Clipper 323 Cathur One and Paolo Ciacci’s Bavaria C40 Sumafe 2. But there are also the “little ones,” such as Paolo Perugino’s Platu 25 Gallo Cedrone.
Free mooring at Brindisi Marina for those coming from outside the area
A historic reference point for Salento boating and an essential stop on the VELA Cup circuit, the Marina di Brindisi welcomes crews arriving from outside the area with open arms, offering a free night’s mooring to all boats registered for the event (subject to availability). “Brindisi continues to strengthen its international vocation,” emphasizes Claudio Gorelli, president of the Marina di Brindisi, “and confirms itself as one of the most popular destinations for yachting, both in Italy and abroad.”

Nearby sights to see (taking advantage of the bridge!)
The area where the VELA Cup Puglia takes place offers the opportunity to discover some beautiful and unique places. Perhaps taking advantage of the “bridge” since the Monday following the VELA Cup is June 2, Republic Day. Let’s start from the sea area near Ostuni with its white beaches. Camerini beach, Lamaforca beach, Costa Merlata, Mangiamuso beach, Torre Pozzelle. These are just some of the lidos, in most of which there are no equipped bathing establishments, that open up on the coast in front of the “white town” Ostuni, which towers about 8 km from the sea on a low hill. It is a truly delightful coastline about 30 km long: little frequented, it also offers a few moorings such as the small port of Torre Santa Sabina.
Torre Guaceto is home to a marine reserve that is 2,200 hectares wide at sea and 1,100 hectares on land. The Torre Guaceto Reserve is a wild, green lung that opens onto the Brindisi coast, hosting a large number of bird and fish species, as well as posidonia meadows. The symbol of the area is the Aragonese tower of the same name, while on the sea, small islands called della Razza and Foglia d’Ulivo stand out (info, tel. 0831 989976).
A little further north, heading up the Apulian coast, is Egnatia, a remarkable historic site with the park enclosing the remains of Egnatia that directly overlooks the sea. A low cliff – in front of which you can even bottom out in clear weather – is home to the Roman acropolis, although its first settlement at the site dates back to the 15th century BC (Bronze Age). Also inhabited by the Messapians from 900 B.C. onward, it was then Rome’s bustling trading base (info, tel. 080 4829056).
VELA Cup Puglia at Brindisi Marina, prizes for (almost) everyone and boats of all kinds!
At the VELA Cup you don’t just win for the best performance at sea, but also for just participating, thanks to the valuable raffle prizes offered by our partners. And then there is the Gift Bag, which is offered to each crew, which is a kind of wonder bag with lots of useful and really unique gadgets, a paper copy of the Sailing Newspaper and the legendary VELA Cup T-shirt.
Racing boats, cruising boats, small cabin cruisers, catamarans, dinghies…everyone can participate in the VELA Cup! Even at the third stop of the year, scheduled in Brindisi May 30 to June 1 (with racing on Saturday, May 31). If you have a polished racing boat with state-of-the-art sails and equipment and a fiercely competitive crew, don’t worry: the VELA Cup is for you. By competing in the Sport Boat standings you will be able to match up against hulls of your level (divided by length), and in the end a ranking drawn up using the VELA Cup’s secret handicap compensation system will decide who is the best.
Do you have a “cruiser” and have never participated in a regatta in your life? The VELA Cup is the perfect event for you, too! You will participate in the Cruising Boat (white-sailed) category and-always within the grouping that includes boats of similar length to yours-you will have a chance to win, but most of all to have fun. If you then want to know, the great thing about the VELA Cup is that it is often the newcomers with crews of friends and relatives and cruising boats that get the better of the ” racing” superyachts.
