The eve’s prediction was fulfilled, the line of honor of the Ran 630 of the Yacht Club Livorno, one of the longest and most challenging races run in the Mediterranean, went to Matteo Uliassi’s foil catamaran F4 Falcon, with a crew that included Shannon Falcone, a long-time Luna Rossa team member and the Falcon’s creator and developer.
The Falcon covered an effective distance of 770 miles, taking 4 days, 17 hours and 26 minutes (timed to perfection by Locman, official timekeeper of the RAN 630) to complete the course, which, in a counterclockwise direction, included the passages of Porto Cervo and Capri, with start and finish in Livorno. The next boat expected at the finish line is Francesco Giordano’s X-41 Adrigole II, currently north of Elba, which is also credited as one of the possible winners in ORC A. Also 60 miles from the finish line is Guido Baroni’s Sunfat 3600 Lunatika, currently first boat among the crews in doubles.
F4 Falcon, which boat is first over the finish line of RAN 630
The 14-meter-long F4 is a full foiling catamaran, no longer in production, designed also for offshore racing, built by the Dutch shipyard DNA Performance Sailing, already featured in the documentary, produced by Red Bull, “Flying on water,” in which James Spithill sails the F4 from New York to Bermuda.
Designed and built, in carbon, to compete in offshore racing. The boat is the result of a collaboration between Shannon Falcone (two-time America’s Cup winner), Tommy Loughborough (professional sailor) and DNA engineers/design teams such as Dutch Rudo Enserink.
The F4 was specially designed for Redbull’s documentary “Flying on water.” Jimmy Spithill, America’s Cup super star at the time with Oracle Team USA, flew the first F4 from New York to Bermuda.
