From June 1 to July 13, the Giro d’Italia a Vela (Tour of Italy by Sail) returns, the highlight event of the Navy’s Pink Ribbon Tour 2025. The stages will be announced on May 5 during the “Vespucci” ship’s Mediterranean Tour stopover in Reggio Calabria.

Sailing is one of the most beautiful and fulfilling ways to discover and enjoy Italy’s coasts, which in their approximately 8,000 kilometers of coastline offer some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. If you then combine the excitement of our natural treasures with the adrenaline rush of racing, then the experience becomes truly unforgettable. The opportunity to experience all this is the Giro d’Italia a Vela, the highlight event of the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour 2025 scheduled from June 1 to July 13.

It is an enthralling 1,400-mile circumnavigation along the Italian coast that in this 2025 unlike previous editions will run clockwise with departure from Venice and arrival in Genoa. A unique event, among the most competitive in the Mediterranean, with many races and a special format that expresses the best of sport sailing while promoting coastal tourism, boating and a new culture of environmental sustainability. Like all events of the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour 2025, the Giro d’Italia a Vela is organized by Difesa Servizi and Sailing Series International.

The stages of the Giro d’Italia unveiled aboard the “Vespucci”

The stages of the Giro d’Italia a Vela 2025 will be officially announced to the public and the media in Reggio Calabria on May 5 aboard the legendary “Vespucci,” the navy’s training ship that after its triumphant two-year round-the-world tour is currently engaged in the “Tour of the Mediterranean.” On this occasion, the very fast Bénéteau Figaro 3s equipped with foils will also be awarded to the 10 participating teams.

The stages of the Giro d’Italia a Vela 2025 will be one more beautiful than the other with a complete circumnavigation of the entire Peninsula that will engage the best male and female crews in 3 different disciplines: “Offshore,” i.e. offshore racing, “Inshore,” i.e. trials between buoys under the coast, and “Board,” i.e. sailboards. The sailing media used are the synthesis of these 3 worlds. For offshore racing, as anticipated, the Bénéteau Figaro 3, the 10.85-meter one-designs designed by Van Peteghem, Lauriot and Prevost (VPLP), will take to the water. Amazing boats that represent the state of the art in sailing technological evolution.

Instead, the stars of the “Inshore” regattas are the Waszp acrobatic dinghies, also equipped with foils that sail above the water at extraordinary speeds. And finally for the “Board” category, the brand new WingFoiling class is engaged, attracting more and more enthusiasts, young and old.

Sailing villages and “Academy” weeks for all

In each stage of the Giro d’Italia Vela 2025, stick races will be held with the possibility of boarding guests and journalists on the Figaro Class 3s, but most importantly, Sailing Villages will be set up where the public can watch the challenges on the water and get closer to the world of sailing through initiatives and experiences open to everyone, including non-professional sailors. Younger people can take advantage of “Open Days” organized by the Italian Sailing Federation.

The big news in this 2025 is also the possibility for all readers of the Sailing Newspaper to board the fleet and take part in the “Academy” project with training weeks and participation in coastal regattas alongside international tutors. For those who want to book themselves for the training academies, here are dates and the stages where you can get on board: July 21- 26, La Maddalena; Sept. 8 – 13, Genoa; Oct. 6 -11, Genoa.

These courses, like the entire Pink Ribbon Tour, will be conducted in cooperation with the Royal Ocean Racing Club (Rorc) and the Navy.

In short, the Pink Ribbon Tour 2025 Sailing Tour of Italy is an unmissable opportunity to share lots of racing, fun and passion for the sea, exploring Italy’s most beautiful coastlines and some of the most scenic places in the Mediterranean. The Sailing Newspaper will keep you updated on everything. Don’t miss your chance to get on board!
