From May 23 to 25, the Marina Cala de’ Medici, in the heart of the Etruscan Coast between Rosignano and Castiglioncello, hosts the VELA Cup Toscana 2025 Special Edition 50 years GdV: an unmissable stage of Italy’s busiest regatta circuit, this year in a special edition to celebrate 50 years of the Giornale della Vela. Here’s what you’ll find if you participate in a weekend that combines sport, fun and great emotions, with a very rich program between sea and dock, which also includes a“cineforum,” obviously sailing-themed.

A weekend of sailing and partying you can’t miss

The VELA Cup Toscana 2025 course-which lasts a maximum of 4 hours-will take you to discover the Gulf of Castiglioncello, along the Costa degli Etruschi. You start in front of the waters of Marina Cala de’ Medici and, after turning the disengagement buoy, you head for the second buoy off Vada, a hamlet of Rosignano Solvay. For the third buoy you return in a northerly direction, the point where the third buoy is placed is in front of the port of Chioma, mouth of the stream of the same name, after which you return in front of the Marina di Cala de’ Medici turning the disengagement buoy

La SAIL Cup Tuscany kicks off on Friday, May 23, with final registration and arrival of boats and culminates in racing on Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25. The Marina Cala de’ Medici, will be the meeting point for sailors of all levels: from relaxed cruising to super sporty racing, as at the VELA Cup boats are divided into two dedicated categories, Cruising Boat and Sport Boat, in addition of course to the classification dedicated to boats over 25 years old built since 1967, the Classic Boats. The event is open to all types of boats from 3 meters in length, with no special requirements other than the desire to have fun and share a passion for sailing.

In addition to the regattas, the program ashore will include the delivery of a celebratory polo shirt “Special Edition 50 years GdV,” the rich gift bag for the crews, music, refreshments and many prizes raffled during the awards ceremony. There will be no shortage of special initiatives such as the Mylius Cup (“regatta within a regatta,” with rankings and prizes dedicated to Mylius boats) presence of the Vaurien fleet as well as a gathering of X-Yachts.

Then on Sunday, May 25, it’s back on the water with the Triton Cup 2025 – LIFE A-MAR NATURA2000. You basically sign up for one regatta and do two: one on Saturday and one on Sunday! The course (and the spirit) are the same as Saturday’s, with one more clear objective: to raise awareness of the importance of marine biodiversity and conservation of protected habitats and species.

Watch “NO MORE TROUBLE – What Remains of a Storm” in the presence of the director

The icing on the cake of a festive Saturday, which will start with the VELA Cup Toscana 2025 Special Edition 50 years GdV, continue with the awarding of the Sailor of the Year Special Edition 50 years GdV and then with the big VELA Cup Party, will be the screening, Saturday, May 24 at 9 p.m., of the film NO MORE TROUBLE – What Remains of a Storm” by Tommaso Romanelli, in the presence of the director. The docufilm tells one of the most touching stories of Italian sailing: on the night of April 3, 1998, during an Atlantic record attempt with Giovanni Soldini, Andrea Romanelli – an engineer, sailor and father of the director – disappeared in the ocean following the capsizing of FILA, the boat he had designed. Through archival materials, testimonies and personal research, Tommaso Romanelli reconstructs the figure of his father and the profound meaning of the passion for sailing, loss and memory.

The screening will close the day-long celebration of the Sailing Newspaper’s 50th anniversary and offer all participants a unique opportunity to reflect on the emotions, risks and values that only the sea and sailing can convey.

An opportunity not to be missed, even if you don’t have a boat!

Whether you are a racer, a cruiser or just an enthusiast, from May 23 to 25 the Marina Cala de’ Medici set up for the VELA Cup is the right place to celebrate together the passion for sailing and the 50th anniversary of the Sailing Newspaper. If you would like to participate in the regatta but don’t have a boat, or you have a boat but no crew, you can take advantage of the Seeking/Off Boarding service for the Tuscan leg.

If, on the other hand, you just want to be a part of the big sailing party, you can come and participate only on land, and-if you wish-you can watch the regatta at sea with the publicboat ” available while seats last.
