Fiftyyears of the Journal of Sailing’s history is well worth a celebration. And we decided to celebrate this historic milestone in the best way possible with all of you who follow us-a community of two million Sea Lovers.
The biggest sailing party to which you are all invited
You are all invited on Saturday, May 24, to the biggest 2025 sailing celebration in Italy. Where. At Marina di Cala de’ Medici, in the heart of Tuscany, in front of the Tuscan Archipelago and in the gulf of the iconic Castiglioncello, where the masterpiece film “Il Sorpasso” was filmed.
Here is the program for an unmissable day, where all sailing enthusiasts and curious people are invited. The people of Sea Lovers: you can come alone, accompanied, with friends, by car, by boat, as you wish. The important thing is to be there!
The program of the great sailing festival
- When: Saturday, May 24, 9 a.m. to midnight
- Where: Marina Cala de’ Medici. Via Agostino Straulino, 1, 57016 Rosignano Marittimo (LI)
- Who is invited: everyone
- Admission: free
Appointments:
- 9-11 a.m.: Finalization of last entries VELA Cup Special Edition 50 years GdV, crew briefing, race start.
- 11 a.m.-3 p.m.: SAIL Cup at sea. Don’t have a boat? Search for a spot on the dedicated Facebook page Seeking/Offering Boarding.
- 3-6 p.m.: Relax and “chill” on the dock and plaza at Marina Cala de’ Medici.
- 6-7 pm: VELA Cup awards ceremony and raffle prizes, “food&beverage” refreshment, music in the square at Marina Cala de’ Medici.
- 7-8 p.m.: Awarding of the Sailor Sailor of the Year 2025 Special Edition 50 years GdV in the square at Marina Cala de’ Medici.
- 8-10 p.m.: Screening of the film “No More Trouble – What Remains of a Storm” by Tommaso Romanelli in the presence of the director.
Coming with your boat pays off
You can participate with your boat (any boat, 3 meters and up) and your friends in the VELA Cup Special edition 50 years GdV regatta (register here) along a fascinating route, which lasts a maximum of 4 hours (11 a.m. start). All crews of participating boats (upon registration) receive the iconic “Anniversary 50 Years GdV” T Shirt, created exclusively and only for this VELA Cup. Don’t you have a boat? Look for a seat on board directly at the dock or by posting on the dedicated Facebook page Seeking/Offering Boarding.
If you participate in the regatta with a boat built from 1967 to 2000 you can, after verification of the state by our on-site certifiers, be entered free of charge in the Classic Boat Register. The VELA Cup is not only at sea: you are all invited to the sailing party in the square of Marina di Cala de’Medici where from 6 p.m. takes place:
– the VELA Cup awards ceremony with prizes raffled among all those attending the awards ceremony (just register before the awards ceremony, at our desk).
– a “food&beverage” refreshment open bar, com music from 6 p.m. onwards.
And that, dear friends of the Sailing Journal, is just the first part of the long day ahead.
Get to know the greatest sailors
Evening falls, but the sailing party continues. Saturday, May 24, starting at 7 p.m., finished the VELA Cup awards ceremony. will stage the Sailor of the Year 2025 Special Edition 50 years GdV. Also unique and unrepeatable. The event will be attended by Italy’s most famous sailors, awarded to date as Sailor of the Year by GdV. You will be able to meet them, take selfies and talk to them – we are sure they will inspire you with their stories and advice.
From 7 p.m. they will all receive, all together, the prestigious Sailor of the Year award Epic Special Edition 50 years GdV.
And they will be the ones to award the 2025 Sailor of the Year 2025 Special Edition 50 Years GdV winners.

Eventually everyone will go to the movies!
One certainty is already there: the special “Best Stories” award given to Tommaso Romanelli, for the film “No More Trouble – What Remains of a Storm,” in the opinion of the GdV “The most exciting and true film in the history of sailing.”
You will be able to meet the young director who told the story of his father Andrea, who disappeared in the ocean, in this splendid docufilm, and, most importantly, see the film on the big screen in the square of the Marina in Cala de’ Medici. The screening starts at 8 p.m., immediately after the awarding of the Sailor of the Year.
If you came by boat, don’t party too hard–because the next day (Sunday, May 25) it’s back on the water with the Triton Cup!
