The new 42-meter Swan will be built in aluminum, in Viareggio, for an Italian shipowner
We have already told you about it here. But now the picture is getting clearer. What will Nautor Swan’s new 40-meter aluminum megayachts look like after the historic “swan” brand joins the Sanlorenzo Group? The first will be designed by an Englishman (Malcolm McKeon), they will most likely be built in Italy, sold by a prestigious international broker (Edmiston).
The first Swan megayacht? For an Italian shipowner
The first model will be designed by Englishman Malcolm McKeon: his firm is no stranger to high-tech mega-boats (in the portfolio, for example, is Ribelle, Salvatore and Paola TrifirĂ²’s 33-meter, launched in 2017). A distinctive element of his work is his ability to adapt each project to the specific needs of his clients, without ever compromising quality and innovation. The boat will be 42 meters long, will be built for an Italian owner, and will be built barring surprises in Viareggio.
The aluminum-sailed superyachts will evoke Nautor Swan’s aesthetic canons, focusing on protection, comfort, and long-range cruising capabilities without compromising sailing performance. Sustainability will be at the heart of each design, integrating cutting-edge solutions such as hydrogen generation and other environmentally friendly technologies already adopted by Sanlorenzo, including methanol and hydrogen.
The partnership with Edmiston
The “Maxi” operation is part of a larger project to revive the historic sailing tradition, for which Sanlorenzo is finalizing the acquisition of two new shipyards, located right in Viareggio. And in the meantime, it seals a strategic partnership.
Massimo Perotti, Executive Chairman of Sanlorenzo, told Il Sole 24 ore that the deal aims to generate “40 to 50 million more revenues” between 2027 and 2028. Perotti, who returned from a meeting with Jamie Edmiston in St. Barth, during the Bucket Regatta, one of the most important events for the sailing megayacht industry, made it known that he has signed an agreement with Edmiston-one of the most respected and successful yacht brokerage firms in the world, of which Jamie Edmiston is CEO. The company has offices in London, Monaco, New York, Miami, Newport, and Mexico City, and for 3o years handled the sale of Perini’s large yachts in America.
70-meter Swans may also arrive in the future
Edmiston, with executive director Bruce Brakenhoff, will be the exclusive distributor of the new Maxi Alloy Swan line, 40 meters and up. Sanlorenzo’s patron added, again in the Sun interview, that megayachts up to 70 meters may be built if the market demands it. But for now, focus on yachts from 40 to 56 meters , compatible with the draft of the Viareggio shipyards. Larger boats could instead be built at the Sanlorenzo plant in La Spezia.
All the background to the collaboration between Sanlorenzo and Edmiston
The collaboration between Nautor Swan in the “Sanlorenzo” version and Edmiston is based on a shared vision, with the goal of expanding Nautor Swan’s international presence, strengthening its legacy in the maxi yacht segment and expanding the reach of the new range worldwide. It also represents another important step in the Nautor Swan for America initiative, launched with the partnership with American Magic, with the ambitious goal of boosting interest in sailing in the United States.
Massimo Perotti explains, “We acquired Nautor Swan to complete our product offering, entering the sailing segment with the most iconic brand. Sanlorenzo and Nautor Swan share similar values, targeting a club of yachtmen ‘connoisseurs’ who are passionate about the sea. We are actively exploring new markets and have exciting plans, with sailing also positioned as a sustainable choice. The partnership with Edmiston is a natural evolution of our shared vision, opening up new opportunities for the future of both brands. ”
“We are delighted to be embarking on this journey together with Sanlorenzo and Nautor Swan, an iconic name in the sailing world, with the goal of positioning the brand at the top of the production of high-performance superyachts ,” says Jamie Edmiston, Chief Executive of Edmiston- Working closely with Massimo and Giovanni, with Bruce leading Edmiston, fills us with optimism and enthusiasm for what the future holds.
Giovanni Pomati, CEO of Nautor Swan, adds, “This partnership with Edmiston is crucial in completing a strategic operation that will enhance Sanlorenzo’s collective experience in the superyacht sector. The collaboration will create a powerful synergy of expertise, ensuring the success of an ambitious global project and creating opportunities for technology transfer in the sailing segment .”
As anticipated, Bruce Brakenhoff will be the main point of contact at Edmiston for this important project. Edmiston’s office, located at 2 Marina Plaza, Goat Island, Newport, Rhode Island, will be the operational center for promotion and sales activities for the new range of yachts, marking a significant return of Nautor Swan to Newport, the renowned sailing center that has long been a focal point for many enthusiasts.
