In 1979 a shipyard was born that was destined to carve its name in the history of yachting: it was X-Yachts, of which the legendary X-79 became the standard-bearer. An excellent first design, signed Jeppesen, the small 7.9-meter would be an immense success, the forerunner for a series of hulls that ascended to legend. On the occasion of the Vela Cup Toscana (Cala de Medici; May 23-25, racing Saturday, May 24, 2025 with the VELA Cup and Sunday, May 25, with the Triton Cup), the Giornale della Vela decided to celebrate the brand’s heritage by hosting the 2nd National Gathering of the X-Yachts Owners Association – Italy.
X owners, come out in large numbers! There will also be an exclusive Ranking dedicated to X models in the race, Classic and non-Classic.
Tuscan Sailing Cup & X-Yachts Models – A unique opportunity!
The Vela Cup Toscana will be a unique opportunity, in short, not only to participate in a great celebration of sailing dedicated to all, but also to compete on the water between models similar in design or signature, pitting themselves against boats of all ages and shapes -in compensated time, of course. Both X Classics (designed by and including 2000) and modern Xs, then, will be able to race alongside all other boats, competing in the separate Cruising and Sport classifications and in the one devolved to Classic Boats (details HERE). With an extra twist, indeed: the special X Class, with related prizes, a unique opportunity you will have only at Cala de’ Medici.
For those who want to double up, still in Cala de’ Medici but on Sunday, May 25, there is another regatta, the Triton Cup!
X-Yachts Classics & Vela Cup: celebrating a Golden Age heritage
From the X-79 to the X-102, from the legendary X-95 to the great X-452, you name it…of excellent models, X, has made something for everyone. Indeed, the Danish shipyard has been among the greatest spokesmen and proponents of modern yachting evolutions, creating hulls that have become iconic and setting the standards for design to come. But what, indeed, are the X Classics?
According to our definition, a Classic Boat is said to be a fiberglass boat whose first model was launched from 1967 and whose design exceeds 25 years (ergo, 2000 inclusive). Now, as far as Xs are concerned, this implies an incredible number of excellent hulls. From the aforementioned X-79 up to the legendary IMX-40, there are no less than 28 models of X-Yachts that can be considered classics, with production, then, reaching up to 2005 (X-332). All these boats, in short, are not only relevant in cultural terms, but are also hulls that are already going up in value (also economically) representing-some more, some less-a piece of nautical history.
Not to leave you fantasizing, while waiting to see (and see) lots of you in the water at Cala de Medici, here is a roundup of Classic X-Yachts that are nothing short of sensational. Is yours there, too? Bring it to Cala de Medici!
DO YOU HAVE ONE OF THESE MODELS? OR ANY X-YACHTS SIGNATURE HULL? COME TO CALA DEI MEDICI FOR THE TUSCAN SAILING CUP ON SATURDAY, MAY 24 AND THE TRITON CUP ON SUNDAY, MAY 26!
