All stages of the VELA Cup are open to any type of sailboat over three meters in overall length, with no limitations, and you can enter the event in either of these two categories:
- Cruising Boat: here all boats using only and exclusively white sails, i.e., inferred sails, jib mainsail and genoa only, may participate.
- Sport Boat: this category is designed for those who want to use any type of sail: drifter, code zero, gennaker and spinnaker…
Classic Boats deserve a special mention. Boats over 25 years old, in addition to participating in the regatta in one of the two categories Cruising and Sport (detailed article here) will be enhanced through a special ranking dedicated to them, with additional prizes and rewards for participation.
The VELA Cup is for everyone
The VELA Cup’s inclusive formula rewards all types of boats and owners. By registering you participate in one of two categories Cruising and Sport. These categories are designed to entertain and give satisfaction to both those who want to relax and have fun without putting too much effort into the sea and those who want to race their boat and show off their sailing skills. Also, if your boat is more than twenty-five years old, that is, if you own a Classic Boat, there is a special ranking dedicated to you. We are keen to value those who, by taking over or taking care of “older” boats, bring true jewels of the sea to the VELA Cup.
There are seven stages this year and they will take you to some of the most beautiful places in our country: from north to south, throughout the season from May to October. Choose the leg that is most convenient for you and sign up for the VELA Cup now.

What is the VELA Cup 2025
The VELA Cup is the regatta/festival circuit organized by the Giornale della Vela in the most beautiful places in Italy, from May to October with prizes for (almost) all participants. A perfect opportunity to experience the sea, whatever your spirit and boat: on the water and on land, experience a weekend of excitement.
