In the common imagination, boating is a world reserved exclusively for wealthy entrepreneurs aboard increasingly long and large, luxurious, new and gleaming boats. In reality there is a wide audience of boat owners who own boats – more or less small – kept in excellent condition, albeit dated. These boats are distinguished by their design (somewhat anachronistic, but unique) rich deck plan (against modern trends) and colors and shades that are hardly seen on new generation designs today.

Today the market value of such boats is often between 40,000 and 60,000 euros, although the original purchase price was often higher. For boats in this value range (and there are indeed many that can be seen in Mediterranean marinas and ports) David Assicurazioni has a body policy designed specifically for them.

David Assicurazioni, a broker with years of experience in the boating industry, has in fact identified some of the companies it works with that, in this price range, offer truly competitive insurance premiums for the “body policy,” the one that covers one’s boat, even without an appraisal. In fact, it is important to remember that such a policy protects the underwriter’s boat from damage, offering essential protection for such a valuable asset as a boat.

How policies work for this target audience

These insurance solutions are designed for boat owners who, while not sailing million-euro superyachts, love to sail and love the sea and intend to preserve their boats’ assets. With affordable insurance premiums, it is possible to maintain the value of one’s boat and continue to use it with peace of mind, ensuring long-term security and appreciation.

The strength of these policies identified by David Assicurazioni is that in some cases (to be evaluated together with the broker) a self-certification accompanied by a safety certificate and a notarized, up-to-date photographic collection documenting the condition and preservation of the vessel can replace the need for a formal appraisal.

What the self-certification that replaces the expert report looks like

Within theself-certification are a number of assessments to be estimated by the contractor. Hull, deck and all equipment, including sails and dinghy or other accessories (such as engines) of service. Those who want to take out such a policy must provide all essential information about their boat: builder, model, year, materials used, and technical data (length, beam, displacement…). Then a description of thedeck equipment that is on board the boat should be provided, also sifting through the interior, propulsion apparatus, any accessories in the engine room, and on-board instrumentation.

Once the form is filled out, we proceed to photograph (in dry weather) the boat from the bow, stern, and both sides, with focus on steering components (propellers, rudders), deck, engine room, and interior and exterior environments.

Want to increase the value of your boat? Refit + appraisal!

If, on the other hand, your goal is to restore your boat to its original splendor (and maybe even more), the opinion of a qualified technician remains essential: a sworn estimate ensures that, in the event of a claim, the insurance company will take professional judgment into account for a fair valuation of the boat.

Only a trained technician can then recommend targeted interventions that can not only restore the boat’s original appearance, but also significantly increase its market value. Therefore, for those who wish to restore the boat to its original condition and increase its value, refitting with expert guidance remains the ideal solution.

Even in these cases David Insurance has the right solution for you, you just need to contact the broker to get a free tailored quote.
