Recover hulls of boats with a few years on their backs, strip them bare, and rebuild them to today’s standards and owner’s needs.
Reboat revives your boat
This is the excellent idea of Reboat, which officially opened the gates of its shipyard on January 30. The French company is located in the so-called Sailing Valley, or Brittany. This new reality operates in a space of about 1,000 square meters in Lorient, in the premises that were FR Nautisme, and is committed to transforming old yachts into modern, high-performance units.
Tailor-made
More than a reconditioning workshop, Reboat offers the rebuilding of boats for boaters tailored to their design and needs. “We are thus building a new benchmark in our industry, environmentally consistent and economically relevant, serving an authentic boating experience,” the three founders write on their website.
Restomod marinara style
Automotive enthusiasts will recognize the resemblance to the so-called restomod, a phenomenon in vogue in recent years that involves rebuilding iconic car models from scratch, modernized with the latest technology, including systems related to safety and comfort. Reboat wants to do just that: recover existing hulls, strip them bare, and rebuild them to today’s standards and the needs of the owner.
A to Z
“Reboat opens the door to a new kind of boatyard, where diverse know-how and a unique methodology of boat reconstruction are combined. Here the yachtsman defines his project and we rebuild with him a boat adapted to his needs,” this is the description the company wants to give to its work. Starting from here and working in synergy with the owner, furniture, keel, mast, electrical system and interiors are overhauled and replaced adapting them to the client’s requirements and new technologies available on the market.
New life to the 40-footer
The rising cost of new yachts is a significant challenge for all sailing enthusiasts and also for charter companies, which are forced to frequently renew their fleets. Reboat focuses particularly on 40-50 foot yachts, where the price difference between a rebuilt boat and a new one can be up to 5-7 times greater. For private boat owners, this approach offers an opportunity to purchase a fully refurbished boat, while also avoiding the rapid depreciation of new boats.
Attentive to the environment
Reboat also redefines the shipbuilding industry’s commitment to respecting the environment around us: since the composite hull is the element with the greatest manufacturing impact, its reuse contributes greatly to reducing the need for new raw materials and energy. In addition, by rehabilitating underutilized boats in ports, Reboat maximizes the use of resources already available.
Who is behind Reboat?
Reboat ‘s founders have solid experience in the marine industry. Kaourintin Neuder, an expert in composite construction, worked at Marsaudon Composites. Dimitri Caudrelier, a specialist in ecological transition and brother of well-known sailor Charles, has already implemented these principles with Yellow Impact Sailing’s Grand Surprises fleet. Finally, Vincent Taupin, with a background in banking and finance, brings expertise in management and development.
