Northern Europe with its shipyards is a very interesting market for the sailing world, and BOOT in Düsseldorf is the fair of choice. One of the boats we were waiting to see at BOOT was definitely the Heyman 42, a Swedish brand that builds in Estonia at Ridas Yachts, a yard that specializes in building sailboats including one-offs.
The Heyman 42 is a decidedly out-of-the-ordinary Pilot House-style boat with somewhat retro lines and very unique waterline solutions. In the VIDEO that follows our tour on board during BOOT.

The boat has a retro style, with a distinctive inverted stern line reminiscent of classic boats, as well as the deck that goes up toward the bow.
One of the key points of the design, however, is the deckhouse, which it would be more accurate to describe almost as a pilote house, a stunning full-glass deckhouse.
An interesting solution for a Nordic boat, because it allows in the winter months to have more warmth inside and save on heating consumption, which is planned on the Heyman 42 42 PPH anyway.
Very particular is the choice for the keel. The yard’s idea is that this can also be an exploration boat, and in order to really be able to sail anywhere from the northern seas to tropical reefs, you need a hull that is also suitable for shallow waters. For this reason, the yard has come up with a kind of long keel, with a fairly small section, however, offering a draft of only 1.48. The reduced draft is compensated for at least in part by the horizontal length of the keel, but a second option is also offered.
A kind of additional “canard,” an additional retractable centreboard that brings the draft to more than 3 meters, can be hidden inside the long keel upon request, to be used in case of need, such as upwind when not facing shallow waters. The rudder, on the other hand, is equipped with a protective semi-skeg.
The interior is basically designed for a couple, with the intention of making this boat a kind of ultra-comfortable second sailing home. There is still room for a double-bed guest cabin, however, and in general the central living area is also large and especially takes advantage of the panoramic view from the deckhouse.
