Arrivals continue in Les Sables d’Olonne for the Vendée Globe, the 10th edition of the non-stop, solo round-the-world race. After the sidereal podium composed ofCharlieDalin, Boris Hermann and Sébastien Simon, under the 2016 record also went Jeremie Beyou who finished in fourth position. The best of the women was a very strong Justine Mettreaux, eighth in 76 days, at the end of a test of the highest level that qualifies her as one of the strongest in the Imoca 60 class, as well as to be monitored in view of Vendée Globe 2028.
Giancarlo Pedote in the hunt for placement
Attention now shifts to the final rush of positions between 15 and 20, with a group of boats sailing these hours northwest of the Azores about 1,500 miles from the finish line. In this group is Giancarlo Pedote with Prysmian: the Italian has been the author of an excellent ascent of the Atlantic, especially in the southern hemisphere, where he managed to reengage Jean Le Cam and Alan Roura who had eluded him before Cape Horn. Pedote is currently in 21st position, but 15th is just 100 miles ahead of him, a distance still theoretically recoverable. The Tuscan skipper has chosen a slightly more northerly position, which should be able to give him an interesting passage to the Azores than those further south like Le Cam who will have to, in the next few hours, gybe. The approach of this group towards the Bay of Biscay will be rather sporty: a fairly strong depression is moving behind them and the skippers are already feeling the pull of it, the wind in the next few hours will be in the 25-30 knots, with a moving front, for a final part of the race that promises to be quite challenging for them.
