The 50th anniversary of the Sailing Newspaper
The occasion is this 2025, 50-year anniversary of this newspaper, the Journal of Sailing, which was founded in 1975.
We are uniquely fortunate to be able to share this historic milestone with 1,500,000 sailing enthusiasts who follow us steadily through the magazine (print and digital), our website, social media, newsletters, and our events. We are setting the table for this 50th birthday spread, which will last a whole year, right now. Then, you will all be invited. We don’t want to reveal in advance what the celebration will be like. We are still working on it. We will reveal to you, however, what will be the defining motif that will tie together all the initiatives that we will carry out in this 2025 that is so special for us (and for you).
50 Shades of Sailing
It will be number 50, like our years. You will find this issue above, in the logo we created with obvious reference to the simple, effective, essential lines that characterized the aesthetics of the 1970s. Fifty, and only 50, will be the stories of boats and sailors that we will tell you, selected from the impressive archives of the Giornale della Vela. They will be at the heart of the special issue that, to coincide with the printing of the first issue, will come out in print and digital, in July 2025. It will be a veritable Hall of Fame of the best of sailing, a valuable narrative for the use of those who lived through this long period. But also a useful compendium for younger people who have followed the sailing epic only in part. We won’t anticipate anything else; you will see the rest unfold as you go along, month by month, day by day. Know that this 50th birthday is born with you, friends of sailing. Without you The Journal of Sailing would never have been born and lived to this day. Let the party begin.
