5 used boats watercraft from 9.00 to 9.80 m
You will find classic-looking boats with long keels, wooden and fiberglass, cruising and sportier. But with a common denominator: being under 10 meters in length and, as a result, free of the constraint of registration. A safe used car: guarantees the Sailing Newspaper!
New Ranger 29 – 9.00 m – Small and well maintained
The first of the unregistered used boats on display in our market is an “almost 50-year-old.” It is a New Ranger 29 (9.00 x 2.84 m), a long keel cabin cruiser designed in 1960 by Philip Rhodes of the U.S., updated in deck plan and fittings by the Italian Mako Sailers shipyard in Rome in the 1970s.
The boat, named Elena, is registered with the ASDEC (Association of Vintage and Classic Hulls) Historic Nautical Register as a classic boat. Although launched in 1976, she is in excellent overall condition, well maintained with major work carried out in 2022 and partly in 2023 including the replacement of the engine with a new Nanni N 3.30 of 30 hp.
Merani Aliseo – 9.15 m – For those who like classic shapes
The second of the used boat boats for sale on our market also takes us back in time, but before the advent of fiberglass. We’re talking about a Merani Aliseo (9.15 x 2.75 m) with a cedar hull and teak deck, built from 1962 to 1974, designed by Mauro Merani, at the eponymous shipyard in Civitanova Marche that also produced the smaller Nostromo and the oceanic ketch Zephir.
Even at that time, the Aliseo was a classically designed boat: narrow hull and rather starry hull, with lead ballast inserted in the long false keel, with a good draft (1.50 m) that allowed it to grip the wind decently. The interior was necessarily spartan as it included 5 bunks, a galley and toilet. The cockpit was of good size and the sail plan quite developed, with the usual large mainsail and wooden mast with a single order of spreaders. The model, which can be seen in Viareggio, is from 1962: kept as a jewel, she is perfectly seaworthy and has various on-board equipment: autopilot, vhf, echo sounder, MaxProp propeller, refrigerator, winter coat, two summer awnings, Yanmar 30 engine…
Sprint 95 – 9.48 m – For great fun!
We move into the world of more performance-oriented boats, and to the 1990s, with the third of the vessels “under the lens” today. Designed by the firm Joubert&Nivelt, the Sprint 95 (9.48 x 2.92 m) is a one-design launched by the French shipyard Archambault in 1989 and remained in production until 1998.
This sport boat is distinguished by its low weight and large sail area, making it particularly competitive in racing between the buoys. She is very fast in all gaits, especially in strong aft winds. The rig initially configured with a 7/8 rig and flying shrouds was later replaced with a 9/10 mast, without flying shrouds, to simplify rigging. The deck is designed for racing, with a compact deckhouse and a large cockpit that can accommodate 5-6 crew members. The interior is spartan with limited height (1.58 m), equipped with two seats at the bulwarks and a distinctive galley located forward of the saloon. The chart table is located aft. A cabin and chemical toilet are located in the bow. The model for sale can be seen in Bacoli (Naples) and is in excellent condition. The sails are from 2023 and the engine with saildrive was overhauled in 2024.
Elan 310 – 9.55 m – Fast and comfortable
Let’s jump forward in time again with the fourth of the used boats in the review. It’s 2009-Slovenian Elan Yachts launches its Elan 310 (9.55 x 3.22 m), a boat to enjoy both racing and cruising with, in production until 2013.
The Elan 310 has a wide hull with a long side bulge, an open cockpit aft, a “T”-shaped centreboard fin and a double-bladed rudder, features that give this boat a sporty character. Highlights include vertical cuts in the bow and stern (for increased waterline length), a retractable carbon bowsprit, and a smart deck plan. It was designed by Englishman Rob Humphreys, and the hull is constructed of vinylester sandwich. It is a helm-sensitive boat and performs best in winds of 10 knots and up. The interior is bright and arranged in a traditional layout, with a spacious double cabin aft, a cabin forward, and a large saloon with opposing sofas. The model, in its “Performance” version, is from 2012. Complete with every equipment, racing and cruising, she is strong with impeccable and documented maintenance. She is visible in Marina di Ravenna.
Comet 1000 – 9.80 m – A 1980s bestseler
We close with the last of the used boats under 10 meters featured on our classifieds market.
In 1981 the Finot Group signed the design of the Comet 1000 (9.80 x 3.30 m), one of the most successful creations of the Comar shipyard in Forli. It is a sturdy vessel characterized by excellent marine qualities. The hull is made of fiberglass with a structural counter-mold, while the deck is sandwich. The water lines are elegant, with a high freeboard and a wide stern. The deck features an elongated deckhouse with large windows that provide excellent light to the interior, and a well-proportioned cockpit with spacious lockers. The sail rig is optimized for medium-light winds and can be handled easily even by small crews. The interior offers well-organized spaces, with a functional U-shaped galley, a cozy saloon, chart table, a toilet room, a double cabin forward, and a berth aft. The boat for sale is from 1983 and is waiting for you in La Spezia. It remains a vessel albeit with stern extension to make a bathing beach. The boat has been overhauled in all its components from structures to systems.
