How does a “typical weekend” of the VELA Cup 2025 work?

SAIL CUP 2025

Before the event

The day before the event, the organizers are already at the dock since the afternoon, and begin to welcome the incoming boats. Once in port, having moored the boat, it will be possible to finalize the registrations and receive the first directives along with the stickers to be applied on the bow of the boats. Contextually, each participant collects the rich Gift Bag with the merchandise of the Journal of Sailing and with gadgets offered by our partners. The first evening is when you start meeting the other boat owners and crews, begin to get into the spirit of the VELA Cup and enjoy a weekend of serenity and relaxation. The temptation is to party and have fun right away, however, best to take it easy the first night because the next morning is the regatta/racing, the beating heart of the event.

On the day of the event

On the morning of the regatta/sailing event (which always falls on a Saturday, except on one occasion) we wake up by having a nice breakfast in the harbor; in each of the seven legs this year there are discounted facilities and discounts for VELA Cup participants. Before heading out to sea there is then a detailed briefing open to all boat owners, where everything needed to participate safely is explained: the route, timing, rules, weather conditions. The start is in the late morning (marine weather conditions permitting) and we all set off together on a long, smooth starting line. The route is coastal and, given the beauty of the stages, is always scenic. Regardless of the category of participation: Cruising Boat i.e., only with white sails (mainsail jib and genoa) or Sport Boat in which all non-inferred sails are allowed (detailed article here) the course is the same. From a sailing point of view it is easy and you do not need to be an experienced sailor to complete it: it is designed to allow everyone to show off their skills and those who want to race the boat can do so. The duration of the sail is about four hours at the most, and once the boats are back in port and settled, the festivities begin in the late afternoon. The partying starts already during the prize giving, also because you do not win exclusively by winning during the race/sailing and therefore everyone can win rich prizes.

As we explained here, there are numerous raffle prizes for all participants in the VELA Cup 2025. After the prize giving, the actual festivities begin, the highlight of the event, an opportunity to have fun and enjoy music as well as a few glasses in company. This atmosphere of merriment and celebration, lasts until late in the evening.

Event concluded

The next day, the event is considered over (until the next leg), however, benefits remain for all participants of the VELA Cup 2025, and you can use the harbor at advantageous prices. Many people stay to enjoy a few days of vacation, a long weekend, to admire the beauty at sea and on land of the circuit stages:
