Classic Boat
The large cockpit of a Sweden Yachts 45, one of the classics launched in 2000

New year, new Classic Boats: here come the ‘Class 2000s’. We open the year on the ‘classic’ front by talking about those early 21st-century designs that, in the next 12 months, will turn a full 25 years since their first launch, thus classifying themselves as Classic Boats. From these, we have selected 20 mass-built, fiberglass models that, now, become classifiable as having historical value. This adds 20 Classic Boats to the 300+ already surveyed by our editorial staff (you can find them HERE). And their value increases…

Class 2000 – 5 early 21st century Classic Boats from 13 to 14.5 meters

Do they increase in value? Yes, and we are not talking about an emotional value. Rather, we are talking about a real increase in their value, a value they deserve because of their characteristics of innovation, beauty, quality, and performance. There are, in fact, boats that are worth more than others and will be worth even more over time. By now we have talked about them several times, these are the Classic Boats by Giornale della Vela, boats built in fiberglass and in series since 1967, with a minimum of 25 years on their backs, and selected on the basis of very specific canons, which transcend the age of the artifact and focus on the intrinsic historical value, starting with the overall design qualities and the originality of the boat in its context. Therefore, looking ahead to the year 2000, here are 5 more boats among the new 20 Classic Boats in the new upgrade: 5 Classic Boats from 13 to 14.5 meters.

ELAN 45

Elan; 13.42 x 4.19 m; 2000; Rob Humphreys Balanced, aimed at cruising life but not necessarily disdaining performance, the Elan 45 can be said to be a good example of a 2000 hull. The beam really starts to set back, the interior is comfortable, modern, and the handling of the boat is simple, suitable for a vacationing or small crew. It marks well a changing trend in the cruising world, with hulls increasingly projected toward comfort and easy going.

44CS CONTEST

Conyplex; 13.5 x 4.10 m; 2000-2006; #18; Georg Nissen Center cockpit, high deckhouse, substantial freeboard and bluewater trim. In 2000 Nissen designed the Contest 44CS with one thing in mind: to offer an all round boat capable of running, but pampering her guests at the same time. Exceptional interiors, powerful lines, simple handling: the essence of this 13.50-meter that, for the globetrotting hull that it is, touches no small numbers, however, with its 18 examples. Detail: she was also available with Winged Keel, which says a lot.

NAJAD 460

Najad Yachts; 13.95 x 4.28 m; 2000; Judel/Vrolijk When it comes to large Scandinavian shipyards and bluewater, if it’s not Hallberg Rassy it’s inevitably Najad. High freeboards, central cockpits, serene sailing and powerful hulls. Tradition, in this sense, is not lacking and, indeed, for Najad it found its zenith in 2000, with the Najad 460, a little jewel signed Judel & Vrolijk. Spacious, marine, pleasant, takes anywhere, anytime. Worth considering, if only to fantasize about….

SWEDEN 45

Sweden Yachts; 14.15 x 4.18 m; 2000: Peter Norlin / Jens Östmann At Sweden Yachts they like to get it right. And with the signature combination Peter Norlin / Jens Östmann, in 2000, they bring out a hull that can prove it. Anvil deckhouse, set-back beam, protected cockpit and powerful lines. It is a boat made to take on hard seas, comfortably. But it also thinks about relaxation, comfort and mild settings, so much so that it features one of the first folding swim platforms in the transom. A complete hull, to say the least.

FIRST 47.7

Beneteau; 14.5 x 4.5 m; 2000; Farr Yacht Design Along with the First 36.7, 2000 saw Farr Yacht Design engaged in a second project for Beneteau and its First range. The philosophy is the same as for the entire segment: to create competitive, high-performance hulls that are also usable for cruising. Thus the answer on the 14-meter front comes with the First 47.7, tapered in lines and marine in volume and balance. It will be available in standard or race versions, gaining lasting acceptance.
