The upcoming Boot in Düsseldorf, scheduled for January 18-26, promises to be sizzling for sailing with several new products for discerning palates. We have already told you about the First 30, theXR 41 and the preview of the J/36, but there will be another treat to discover: the Saffier SL 46, of which we show you the very first photo coming out of the IJmuiden factory. We call it a gem because it is a first time history in the cruiser sector, albeit with a sporty soul, for the Dutch shipyard. Saffier Yachts in fact specializes in the daysailer and weekender segment, boats for day trips or short cruises that are fast under sail and gritty. For the first time the yard is trying its hand at a true cruising boat, going up against the giants in the industry.
Saffier SL 46 – What a boat it is
With Saffier 46 SL, the shipyard wanted to break out of its niche market, which it had carved out over the years, to compete with the biggest brands of cruising sailboats. It has done so while maintaining the quality to which we have become accustomed, starting with the lamination techniques with which the hull was made . These include the use of isophthalic gelcoat and a vinylester-based barrier resin, all vacuum-infused and with Divinycell hardcore foam inside, except for the area near the keel, which features a strong solid laminate construction. Solutions that make Saffier 46 SL’s hull light but strong, ready to handle any sea conditions. The hull has six integrated windows, with a very aggressive look, and a reverse bow. In addition, the boat is equipped with a carbon dolphin rail, designed for optimal performance with zero tails or gennaker, retractable bollards for mooring. This is completed by a folding transom, which offers greater comfort in the roadstead. The deck is no less. The hardware is Harken, the self-tacking track for the mainsail is integrated in front of the mast,a furling mainsail version will also be offered. Eight recessed portholes and side windows in the deckhouse will provide natural light and ventilation. Additional features include a separate gas bottle compartment in the forward anchor compartment and two storage compartments in the sides of the aft deck for fenders and mooring lines.
Space and luxury inside
Going below deck, the saloon can accommodate up to 8 people comfortably seated, with L-shaped benches and a large table complete with wine fridge. Saffier SL 46 offers a spacious and luxurious interior, with a master cabin in the bow and a spacious salon in the center.
The two aft cabins are designed with comfortable double berths. Each cabin is equipped with hanging lockers for convenient storage and ample stowage space both below and above the bunks. In particular, the starboard aft cabin offers the flexibility to be converted into a technical room, adding versatility to the layout on board.
Two variants for all tastes: MED and NORTH
Saffier 46 SL is available in two variants to satisfy both those who sail in the Mediterranean and those who are used to sailing in colder, more remote seas. Do you want a Spacious stern with retractable benches for relaxing in the roadstead? The MED version Is the one for you. Do you prefer a sheltered cockpit and a garage for the tender? Opt for the NORTH version.
