As the year just ended comes to a close, in addition to the analysis of seasonal data and the increase in bookings recorded compared to the previous year, it is interesting to try to draw a picture of 2025 trends for the sailing cruise market. Let’s see together what they are.
Greece and Croatia the favorites of Italians…
The year 2024 confirmed the propensity of past years for Italians to choose Greece, Croatia andItaly as their favorite destinations. The latter confirmed a particular predilection for yacht charters in Sardinia and Sicily, where there was especially a significant increase in bookings for luxury catamarans crewed by skipper, hostess and cook. This trend is likely to remain solid for the year ahead. New interest, on the other hand, for neighboring Turkey, which has seen significant growth among the preferred cruise destinations over the past 12 months. Here the available boat fleets are modern, well-maintained and sometimes cheaper than in Greece or Croatia. Local hospitality is always excellent and sailing conditions are ideal throughout the summer. However, political developments in Syria and instability in the Middle East could affect bookings in the first quarter of 2025.
…but the fascination with exotic destinations persists
There is also a growing interest in chartering sailboats and catamarans in faraway and exotic destinations, often for periods longer than 15 days. These include Polynesia, Thailand and Indonesia. Even the Caribbean, although still a niche destination for Italian tourists, continues to be confirmed as a growing luxury destination especially in the months where the weather is less favorable for sailing in the Mediterranean.
Exotic destinations in general seem to continue to gain popularity. Indeed, it seems that the Covid period and restrictions on travel have fueled the desire for different experiences, prompting some travelers to opt for the trip “of a lifetime.” People are traveling perhaps less frequently, but for longer periods and to more remote destinations.
Another destination set to remain very attractive in 2025 is the Seychelles. Operators such as Navigare, Dream Yacht and Sailoé are steadily expanding their fleet of boats available for charter, with rates declining slightly. Ponant has also chosen this destination to base its luxury Lagoon Seventy 7 “Spirit of Ponant,” offering cabin cruises. Finally, a destination that is certainly unusual but enjoying great success is Panama. This region located in the southeast of Central America, faces the Caribbean Sea to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the south, thus allowing you to discover wonderful verdant landscapes and beautiful tropical beaches.
You travel by boat even in the low-to-mid season
In general, a trend that is likely to be consolidated in 2025 is the increase in bookings outside the peak season. The months of June and September in the Mediterranean are proving increasingly popular, often more so than July and August. There are many reasons for this: less crowding at sea and in ports, cheaper charter and transport rates, and less risk of extreme heat or violent storms due to heat waves. Some operators are already adapting their price lists to follow this trend, and Globesailor’s partner MisterFly is one of the easiest solutions to use to find convenient and affordable flights.
