New year, new Classic Boats: here come the ‘Class 2000s’. We open the year on the ‘classic’ front by talking about those early 21st-century designs that, in the next 12 months, will turn a full 25 years since their first launch, thus classifying themselves as Classic Boats. From these, we have selected 20 mass-built, fiberglass models that, now, become classifiable as having historical value. This adds 20 Classic Boats to the 300+ already surveyed by our editorial staff (you can find them HERE). And their value increases…
Class 2000 – 5 early 21st century Classic Boats from 11 to 12.7 meters
Do they increase in value? Yes, and we are not talking about an emotional value. Rather, we are talking about a real increase in their value, a value they deserve because of their characteristics of innovation, beauty, quality, and performance. There are, in fact, boats that are worth more than others and will be worth even more over time. By now we have talked about it several times, these are the Classic Boats by Giornale della Vela, boats built in fiberglass and in series since 1967, with a minimum of 25 years on their shoulders, and selected on the basis of very specific canons, which transcend the age of the artifact and focus on the intrinsic historical value, starting with the overall design qualities and the originality of the boat in its context. Therefore, looking ahead to the year 2000, here are 5 more boats among the new 20 Classic Boats in the new upgrade: 5 Classic Boats from 11 to 12.7 meters.

DUFOUR 36 CLASSIC
Dufour; 11.11 x 3.71; 2000; Mortain & Mavrikios and Oliver Poncin
High freeboard, powerful and full hull lines, wide transom and set back maximum beam. Built starting in 1999, the Dufour 36 Classic marks a return to order for the shipyard, which is moving out of its parenthesis devoted to large metrics and back to more “modest” hulls that are easy to drive and suitable for everyone. It will be a success from 450 hulls launched.

SUN FAST 37
Jeanneau; 11.40 x 3.70 m; 2000-2006; Jacques Faroux In 1998 Jeanneau launched the Sun Odyssey 37, signed Jacques Faroux. With 2000, however, he wants to turn the Sun Fast line around and, in partnership with Faroux, revises the 37 to offer a new, more balanced, higher-performance hull. The Sun Fast 37 is born, the same hull as its predecessor, with full bow and flared stern sections, but a new bulb and oversized rudder. The deck is in turn overhauled. The operation pays off; a hull not to be underestimated is born.

FARR 395 OD
Carrol Marine; 12.01 x 3.71 m; 2000-2003; Bruce Farr Bruce Farr is the genius behind such incredible hulls as the Farr 40 or the Mumm 30. In 2000, joining forces with Carrol Marine, he sought the hybrid to challenge the big cruiser-racer. A fast and pulled 12-meter was born, aimed at intercepting owners with eyes only for speed and handling, but who by necessity seek a livable hull as well. It is the Farr 395 One Design, OD, for short, a small New Zealand bolide.

IMX 40
X-Yachts; 12.10 x 3.80 m; 2000-2004; #99; Niels Jeppesen Introduced to do nothing but win, the IMX is yet another icing on the X-Yachts cake: 99 examples in 4 years prove it. Designed to rout everything in IMS, she does exactly that, so much so that she immediately won the European championships and made up 2/3 of the Spanish team at the Sardinia Cup. Need we talk about the boat itself? A fireball: carbon boom, mast and rudder and a trump card: the introduction of an innovative system to adjust the backstay. In short, a missile, worthy successor to the IMX-38.

WAUQUIEZ PILOT SALOON 40
Wauquiez; 12.7 x 4.04 m; 2000-2005; #120; Berret/Racoupeau It is not the most elegant hull to ply the water, certainly, but it is a criterion that could not inrerest. The one signed by Berret and Racoupeau with the Pilot Saloon 40 is indeed a hull of hidden but unimpeachable goodness. Exceptional, well-balanced and docile hulls make it a boat for everyone, a hull to be safe with, a hull that pleases when you are on it, when it matters. 120 examples built prove it.
