The pages of the Sailing Newspaper (not only those of the print magazine, but also those of our online site updated several times a day) have told you stories of adventures, successes and challenges that have shaped the international sailing scene. In this article, let’s take a look at the 10 most-read news stories of 2024 on giornaledellavela.com, finding out which events attracted the most interest and discussion and characterized this unforgettable year for the sailing world.

10) At the Vendée Globe Trial, Giovanni Soldini and Tommaso Romanelli arrive – Nov. 26, 2024

The stories of the great people who made sailing great in the world are always the focus of our articles, as in this case. We talk about a beautiful film, the one shot by Tommaso Romanelli and which reconstructs the events of the accident aboard “Fila” in which his father Andrea lost his life. It is called “No more trouble – What remains of a storm” and is an intense and beautiful film that all sailing fans should see. We talked about it with Giovanni Soldini and the film’s director Tommaso Romanelli in this episode of The Vendée Globe Trial, which you can find every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. live with a new episode on our YouTube and Facebook channels.

9) A new 650 berth marina in Genoa – Jan. 6, 2024

One of the first news items published earlier this year, and still among the most read of 2024. Why? Because we are talking about ports, a topic that is always very hot and about which everyone is waiting for nothing but new news. Here we talk about a project involving a new marina (the Marina di Castelluccio) with 650 berths-reserved for medium and small boats, located between Genoa Pra’ and Genoa Pegli.

8) AC 75 won’t fly without Cariboni – Sept. 3, 2024

America’s Cup but not only: in this news published at the beginning of September we tell you about Cariboni, an Italian excellence coming from the world of accessories. Often underestimated, and actually the beating heart of innovation in boating, they are told in all issues of our magazine, with online news, but especially with a special issue that you will find (as every year) on newsstands in February.

7) Classic Historic Boats – September 1, 2024

This is not an article but a section, the one dedicated to Classic Boats, boats at least 25 years old, built in series since 1967. By visiting it you can discover all the models and their quotations, among those selected for innovation, quality, originality, sail characteristics. If you don’t find your classic boat in the list of those we have selected by historical value, send us a card of your boat and we will tell you if it can become a “Classic Boat of Historical Value by Giornale della Vela.”

6) Heyman 42, the boat (13m) to sail from the northern seas to the tropics – Nov. 5, 2024

“Nordic, marine, rugged, suitable for living aboard even in winter, we could sum up the Swedish Heyman 42 PPH in this way.” So begins one of the many articles (most of those outside this top 10) where we tell you what new sailboats look like and (after trying them out) how they sail. This one in particular tickled your curiosity this year.

5) USED BOATS Sell five boats to stand out from 7.71 to 13.50 m – Oct. 4, 2024

Every day on our marketplace there are a lot of ads posted about the world of used boats. Among the most read news is one that talks about just five boats that are (or at least were, at the time it was written) for sale. Five different boats from 7.71 to 13.50 meters: we have told you about them well in the news so you can see if they might be right for you.

4) Boat safety equipment 2025, what changes – Oct. 19, 2024

Safety must always come first when going to sea, and in fact among the most-read articles on our site is this one, which talks about the new Regulations implementing the Italian Yachting Code, and in particular all the changes that affect safety equipment on Italian-flagged boats. If you still don’t know what’s new, run and read it!

3) Women’s America’s Cup, Luna Rossa’s terrible girls are already in the lead – Oct. 5, 2024

Taking the top spot on the podium of the most read news of the year is the America’s Cup, and in particular the Woman Puig America’s Cup, the AC40 racing series reserved for women’s crews. We feel it has every reason to be among the most-read news, as the women’s crew of Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team, consisting of Giulia Conti and Margherita Porro at the helm, Giulia Fava and Maria Giubilei as trimmers, and Maria Vittoria Marchesini, Alice Linussi and Giovanna Micol at the dock, led us to win an America’s Cup. As they did, so did the Young crew, and who knows that sooner or later it may be the turn of the “Senior” crew.

2) Ecobonus boat engine 2024. Find out how to get it – Oct. 16, 2024

Did you know that even in boating there are eco-incentives to convert to electric? Probably yes, because so many of you have read the news story about the decree signed on October 15, the second most read of the year. By scrapping the fuel-powered propulsion unit, it will be possible to buy and install (with dedicated benefits) electric motors of power between 0.5 and 12 Kw of the outboard, inboard, inboard-outboard or even “Pod” type thrusters.

1) Barcelona, the Cup that isn’t there and the bubble in which Luna Rossa is enclosed – Sept. 1, 2024

It could only be also on the first step of the podium his majesty the America’s Cup, the first topic of interest for our readers in 2024. You especially loved this content where we told you about the air in the dock at the end of August, and talked about the absence of “hype” in Barcelona related to the event, and in fact we could summarize the article a bit with the phrase “no one however, or at least a few, seem to care much about the America’s Cup (in Barcelona, ed.).”
